The sites natural topography was seen as an asset, with level changes offering opportunities for interesting design solutions. Reorienting the house and rethinking site access was key to creating a more cohesive and modern home. The design was flexible to the the clients preferences, exploring various building methodologies and sustainable technologies, all while considering ecological factors and coordinating the involvement of specialists as the project progressed.

With this site being situated within the Green Belt, we recommended beginning with early feasibility studies to define the desired style, followed by a well-prepared pre-application submission and meeting. We discussed making use of the sites natural level changes, as well as opening up the space to incorporate the neighbouring plot, improving both approach and aspect.

This project was focused on creating a new dwelling that could better suit the clients family needs and maximise the potential of an exceptional plot of land. Given the existing scale of the house and its sprawling outbuildings and leisure facilities, there was a significant opportunity to consolidate the space and create a more modern home that would better relate to its surroundings.

From our client’s brief, our focus was on maximising the potential of the project site by developing a modern new dwelling that included two floors as well as a lower basement level. We especially wanted to focus on incorporating the natural change in ground levels on the site. An important focal point was striking the balance between the contemporary style the client wanted to achieve for this house with some of the more traditional properties in the area.
