We were instructed to carry out treeworks on Chelmsford High Street pedestrianised trees, with the build up to Christmas shopping we decided to carry out the works outside of normal retail trading hours.

Fortunately the high street is well lit so no additional lighting was required and using battery chainsaws we could keep the noise to a minimum.

The unforseen challenge was the already installed Christmas lights cable tied to the branches which meant we had to carefully work our way around the tree canopy to ensure no wires were severed.

All works successfully completed without any inconvenience.

Another busy week in the arb world.

Back out with the remote controlled forestry mulcher clearing scrub on several acres of land.

This machine is ideal for vegetation clearance particularly on steep banks and clearing bramble and saplings.

Another busy week in the arb world.

As summer draws to a close and we have early autumn cooler temperatures but amazing sunny days, its perfect weather to be outside enjoying the changing seasons.

This week started off with the removal of dead trees suffering from sooty bark disease, as the trees were too dangerous to climb an access platform was used to dismantle and due to the location three way traffic lights were installed to control the local traffic with operatives on the pavement to ensure pedestrians could pass safely during site works.

Transplanting trees is normally carried out during the dormant months of the year but sometimes circumstances don't allow for this luxury.

When you are forced to move trees during the growing season it's a risky business but when you're presented with a beautiful old acer that's worth several hundred pounds it's worth taking time and a bit of money to save it rather than let it be cut down and lost forever.

We assisted Tom (seen here in the new planting pot) who has a real passion for trees, particularly Acers to move the tree into a large pot so it can be nurtured before going into it's final growing space.

Tom dug around the tree by hand and with the use of our mini digger, some ground protection mats devised a way to extract the tree safely without disturbing too much of the root ball or damaging the tree branches.

Once out the ground and slid out of the garden into another neighbours drive it was securely stropped and our mini crane lifted it onto our trailer for a short journey to a temporary resting place.

Only time will tell if all our efforts have been successful but fingers crossed Tom will have saved a beautiful acer from being cut down.

Our night warriors have once again been busy making our roads safe dismantling roadside trees that were deemed dead, dying or dangerous and risk of falling into high speed A127 dual carriageway.

Our night tree gangs gathered each night at our yard and travelled to site in convoy.

Once our traffic management team closed lane 1 to live traffic an IPV (impact protection vehicle) was positioned to act as a buffer, the tree gang then entered the work zone.

We had our own mobile tower flood lights and lorry mounted access platform so the tree cutters had good all round light and access.

The gangs worked through the night working consecutive nights, getting off site for 05.00 hours each morning.

This week has been particularly wet with strong gusty winds to add to the task but the teams all worked so hard and got the job done - once again personal thanks to each and every one of the guys.

The good old days when it was acceptable to cement glass bottles onto the tops of brickwalls then smash the glass to leave nasty jagged, glass shards embedded to deter or injure any trespassers from climbing over the wall 😲
Lucky we spotted it before anyone was injured.

Another commercial project completed for clients that we have been working with for over 20 years!

The site has a large lake andΒ  pedestrian walkway around the perimeter for staff to get away from their desks and enjoy.

We were instructed to pollard mainly the willows on the site, of which there are many. Due to the nature of the business no noisy machines are allowed so all cutting was undertaken using battery chainsaws. Brash was stacked on site to enable weekend crews to visit and process the chip into the understorey of the hedgerow, providing a fresh mulch to help retain moisture and reduce the carbon footprint of moving woodchip around the country.

Our powerful 4x4 quad bike was used to tow our woodchipping machine throughout the pedestrian pathway without causing damage to the pathway, ideal for park land or bridle path works.

Our Quad is equipped with snow blade, winch and tow ball available for hire with one of our trained operators.

We were instructed to remove this oak which was causing structural damage to adjacent buildings.

Our crane made the job so much easier lifting substantial chunks directly into awaiting trucks for removal from site minimising any inconvenience to local residents and traffic.
