Another awesome project to be involved in. Earlier in the year we were tasked with lightening up the Oak timber as part of their refurbishment project. We carefully restored the main oak bar along with all the exposed timbers throughout the pub. Swipe to see the before photos.

A day of Dry Ice Blasting.. We have had this equipment for a couple of years now, but we don’t use it often on timber beams as it can cause damage to the face of the timber if used in the wrong way. However this is a rare occasion where it has worked to some extent in helping remove old limewash, a small layer of varnish and general grime, on the top floor trusses of this property. Permission had been given for the entire property to be cleaned with the above method. However further investigation and trial patches in other areas of the property proved Dry Ice cleaning would not be viable - and cause damage to historic fabric. Especially on the original hallway Oak panelling. The reason for sharing this video is to help make conservation officers and relevant authorities aware of what can and can’t be done with Dry Ice.. This worries me that they can give permission without having experience in this field, where damage could be caused by giving consent to the “newer technology”… It would be great if they left it to trusted professionals to work out the best application for each material/ project. Or even come out to sites to view samples rather than read what google has to say.

Carefully removing post war black paint from these historic timbers. Fascinating history as the property dates back to the 1200s! Now they can be on show and not trapped behind layers of paint.

While some companies paint over original timber to mimic a faux wood grain effect, we take a very different approach. That method only adds another layer of disguise—hiding the craftsmanship and historical value beneath more paint.

Our careful, low-pressure stripping process reveals the natural beauty of the timber, as seen in this oak door frame. Decades of built-up paint are gently removed to expose the original detail and texture—no damage, no shortcuts.
