Completion of outside electrics for this garden setup.

Power has now been taken from the main house down to the lower garden shed/workshop, with a run of garden lights illuminating the way and making the route safer, more practical and much more inviting after dark.

This kind of installation makes a huge difference, whether the space is being used for tools, lighting, storage, hobbies or as a proper working area. With outdoor electrics, the details matter. This dielectric gel helps protect the connection and gives it an IP68 rating, meaning it can be permanently submerged in water when installed correctly.

Ed and Henry are making great progress on this project in Monmouth, carrying out the first fix electrical installation for a new kitchen extension along with external lighting and power supplies.

At this stage, it's all about getting the foundations right – carefully routing cables, positioning circuits and ensuring everything is ready for the next phases of the build. While much of the work is hidden behind walls and ceilings, it's the quality of this first fix that helps deliver a reliable and professional finished installation.

This is shaping up to be a fantastic project, and we're really looking forward to returning for the second fix and seeing the finished result come together.

We recently designed and built this automated control system panel for a customer with an industrial premises.

The new setup has been developed to help automate parts of the conveyor and packing process, reducing the amount of manual intervention required while improving both productivity and operational safety.

So how does it actually work?

The panel effectively acts as the “brain” of the system. Power enters the enclosure and is distributed through a series of relays, timers, contactors and control components which allow different sections of the conveyor and packing equipment to operate automatically in sequence.

For example, sensors or switches can trigger parts of the system to start or stop automatically, while timers and relays help keep everything synchronised and running smoothly. Safety interlocks can also be incorporated to prevent equipment operating under unsafe conditions.

The larger contactor components safely switch higher-current loads such as motors, while the smaller relay modules manage the control side of the automation process. The system also uses a dedicated power supply to provide the correct control voltage for the components inside the panel.

Projects like this require careful planning, logical design and tidy wiring to ensure the finished system is reliable, safe and easy to maintain.

A really interesting project to be involved with and a great example of how automation can improve efficiency within industrial environments.
