🔋 Thinking about adding a battery to your solar system?

From 15 October 2026, new UK requirements will change where home batteries can be installed.

That means locations such as lofts, bedrooms, hallways and escape routes may no longer be suitable for a new battery installation.

The Life Electric, Report 1: Zappi Car Charger Installation 🔋

Every good relationship starts with a proper introduction.

In the case of my BMW i3 Range Extender, that introduction came in the form of a shiny new Zappi home charger mounted proudly on the side of the house.

Owning an electric vehicle without home charging is a bit like owning a Labrador but living on the tenth floor with no lift. It is possible, but you will quickly wonder whether you have made life unnecessarily complicated.

Thankfully, the installation was remarkably straightforward. Before long, the i3 was happily drawing power from its new energy source.

There is something strangely satisfying about plugging in your own car at home. It feels less like refuelling and more like putting your phone on charge overnight.

The charger quickly moved from “expensive gadget” to “essential household appliance”.
