✨ Fresh new look for Partners Hair Salon ✨

A great little project completed for some good friends of ours. The existing frontage was looking tired and dated, so we stripped everything back and completely transformed the exterior. 👌

Works included:
▪️ Removal of the old render
▪️ Full new modern render system
▪️ Brand new anthracite shopfront finish
▪️ Fresh contemporary signage
▪️ Complete front elevation facelift

The end result is a clean, modern frontage that completely lifts the building and gives the salon the presence it deserves on the street. 🔥

🏗️ Plot 2 – The Gate, taking shape nicely now.

Big progress on this one over the last few days…

Posi-joists and roof trusses are now fully installed, completely transforming the structure and really starting to show the scale of the space 👌

Reduced level dig is around 90% complete, with internal wall foundations going in tomorrow to start defining the layout.

A lot of work has gone into this behind the scenes — from temporary works and structural sequencing to making sure everything is right before we push on.

One step at a time, done properly.

Sometimes in construction, you look through dozens of candidates and still don’t find the right one… 👷‍♂️

We reviewed over 70 applicants for this role, but most didn’t want to step out of the machine and into the full scope of the trade 🚧

That’s not what we’re about.

Then Bradley turned up 👊

Knocked on the gate. Had a conversation. Showed genuine interest in construction and a real drive to learn and master a trade 🔨

No fluff, no ego — just honesty and willingness to work.

That’s exactly what we look for.

Bradley’s had hands-on experience working alongside his dad on extensions and new builds 🏠 seeing projects through from start to finish. Now he’s ready to focus, develop his skills, and build a proper career 📈

Opportunities like this don’t come from scrolling — sometimes you’ve got to go and get them 💥 gone all the days you can bang on any construction site in the UK and ask for an opportunity, this needs to be brought back in my opinion!

Sometimes you can get lucky in construction and have a straightforward job…
We’re still yet to find one. 😅

Here’s another one that’s keeping us on our toes 👇

This nursery extension has already thrown up a proper mix during excavation 🚧

• 2 x water pipes 💧
• 1 x gas line 🔥
• Main sewer run 🕳️
• 2 x electrical cables ⚡

All sitting exactly where you don’t want them.

This is where jobs are won or lost, not on the easy days, but when you hit the unexpected.

Everything is now being identified, protected and worked around properly so we can move forward safely and without cutting corners.

No guesswork. No shortcuts.
Do it once. Do it right.

🏗️ Two plots. Two stages. One big step forward.

This week marks a major turning point at The Gate Inn.

👉 Plot 1 — fully underpinned and now protected under its new roof structure
👉 Plot 2 — ready for the next phase, with wall plates going on and roofing starting next week

Plot 1 has been all about stabilising and securing the existing building, a huge amount of work below ground to create a solid base. Now that’s complete, the structure is back under cover and progressing internally.

We’re also installing posi-joists, a system we use across our builds to improve efficiency for all trades.
🔧 Easier routing for electrics and plumbing
🔧 Cleaner installs with less cutting and notching
🔧 Faster progress through first fix

Plot 2 is right behind it.

Wall plates are going on and from Wednesday the roof will start to go up which will completely change the feel of the site again.

This is where the project shifts from structural recovery into real, visible progress. From holding it up… to building it back. 🔨

One hell of a team. Getting it done the right way. 💪

Another future in the making at Houlton Developments 👷‍♂️

This week we’ve got Izaak joining us on site for work experience, getting a real insight into what the construction industry is all about. He spent an hour on Monday looking for a “long wait”.

At HDL, it’s important to us that the next generation comes into the trade the right way, learning proper standards, understanding site safety and seeing first-hand what goes into delivering quality homes.

Safety is always our top priority, especially with young people on site. The team have been briefed and it’s a great opportunity for Izaak to learn in a controlled, professional environment.

Everyone starts somewhere, and it’s good to be part of that journey 💪 Young people should be encouraged to join this challenging but rewarding industry and most importantly, employers supported by government to do so.

The Gate conditions have now been approved ✅

This one hasn’t been straightforward…
What should have been a simple redevelopment turned into months of back and forth, with heavy focus around conservation area considerations and materials….. despite the building itself having no real historic or architectural merit.

Drainage, stone, slate, detailing… every element scrutinised.

But that’s development.

You’ve got two choices, push through it properly or let it stall the job. We’ve pushed.

All key conditions now discharged, design locked in and we’re ready to move forward on site.

Big thanks to the team involved in getting this over the line 👏

Next stop… getting this built.

⛽ Fuel theft on construction sites is getting out of hand.

It’s hard enough to make money in this industry without people helping themselves to the diesel in our machines.

Turn up in the morning and the excavator is empty.
Generators won’t run.
Plant is down.
Work stops.

And the worst part?

The people stealing it have no idea how tight margins already are in construction.

For a lot of small contractors and developers, losing a few hundred litres of fuel can wipe out the profit on a day’s work.

We secure sites.
We lock tanks.
We install cameras.
Yet it still keeps happening across the industry.
