Our first of 2024 goes to Brendan 👋

Brendan is our Yard Foreman, initially joining as a trainee sawyer. His ability and dedication soon made him an indispensable member of the team with an upward trajectory.

His role covers many areas, some of which include managing the yard and machines to ensure we are on time and to schedule, producing job cards, printing and plotting templates, producing 3D drawings/models for our 5 axis CNC machines as well as personally selecting the stone for many of our projects.

Past projects include the BMA Memorial Sculpture, The Mayflower Memorial and Lancing College Chapel.

Here at Chichester Stoneworks, we have evolved from a desire to bring more sustainable craftsmanship to a wider audience, providing garden design pieces, and landscape focal features, whilst simultaneously using the highest quality materials, surplus to requirements from our larger projects, enabling us to offer more products at affordable prices and in-turn reducing waste.

Natural stone products in our range include benches, coasters, and lion head features. Sitting on a bench might not be as exciting as bungee jumping, but it’s definitely more comfortable!

Meet the Team! 👋

Gemma is our Managing Director, responsible for commercial and operations, as well as being our Senior Surveyor with over 19 years’ experience in the industry.

Gemma’s degree in Quantity Surveying and Construction Management, plus her 10 years' in the commercial sector working on fast-turnaround, interior fit-outs for retailers and large main contractors, put her in good stead to take on the complexities of the new-build masonry, restoration and conservation that we carry out.

We think she is a great role model to encourage the next generation of women into construction, and to take our business forward 💪👷‍♀️

We had a lovely time yesterday hosting an afternoon reception to commemorate our conservation works to Hampton Gay ruin. Thank you so much to everyone who attended. Also thank you to Lex Marquee Hire for the wonderful marquee and accessories, Whitehouse Event Crockery for the beautiful crockery and cutlery, and Atlanta Thompson for the incredibly delicious food!

It’s Friday the 13th in October, the spookiest month of all 👻

We are currently working on conserving Hampton Gay, where on Christmas Eve 1874, there was a tragic railway accident. A wheel failed on a crowded express train full of people travelling home for Christmas. Unfortunately, the sudden action of stopping caused the train to crash into an older carriage and into the Oxford Canal below.

Rumour has it, the owner of the Manor house refused to allow the injured to be brought in and it was felt a curse was placed on the house, which could explain its fate... The Manor house was destroyed by fire in 1887, resulting in the interior being completely gutted and the roof collapsing.

Let us know if you have any spooky tales/experiences to share of any projects you have worked on!
