We love seeing the connections that grow through woodland community projects 🌳

Last year, Mon and David Barbour found themselves in conversation with the Woodland Heritage team about walnuts - germination, growth rates, timber quality, squirrels… all the important things.

Several months later, 9kg of premium seed walnuts from the Barbours’ woodland and sawmill in Oxfordshire were gifted to James Wood.

Most were planted in January, with volunteers still planting by headtorch at sunset. The remaining walnuts germinated in compost by late April and have now been planted among last year’s young oaks.

It’s a lovely reminder of how small conversations and shared knowledge can grow into something lasting for future generations.

James Wood will be open as part of Open Woods & Workshops on 19–20 June 🤎
