🔌✨ Does Your Property Need a Rewire? ✨🔌

Many people don’t realise that electrical wiring has a lifespan. Over time, cables and connections can deteriorate, become unsafe, or fail to meet modern electrical demands.

⚡ Why would you need a rewire?
• Your wiring is over 25-30 years old
• You’re having frequent electrical issues or blown fuses
• Plugs and switches are outdated or cracked
• You’re planning major renovations or extensions
• There is no earth cable on lighting circuits (common in older houses)

🔧 What’s involved?
A rewire is a major job. We will:
✅ Replace all cables in walls and floors
✅ Install a modern consumer unit (fuse board)
✅ Upgrade sockets, switches, and lighting
✅ Ensure your system meets current regulations for safety

⏰ When should it be done?
Ideally before moving in or as part of renovation works, to minimise disruption. However, if your electrics are unsafe, it should be prioritised urgently to protect you and your family.

💡 Not sure if you need a rewire?
Book an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) with us today to check the safety of your system.

📞 Contact NW Smith Electrical to discuss your home’s wiring and keep your property safe and up to date.

🔥 How safe is your smoke alarm? 🔥

We always say – a working smoke alarm can save your life, but did you know it’s even better if it’s hardwired with a battery backup?

Hardwired smoke alarms are wired straight into your home’s electrics, so they’re always powered. And if there’s a power cut, the battery backup keeps you protected. It’s peace of mind for you and your family.

🏠 What do the regulations say?

✅ New homes and major refurbs need hardwired alarms with battery backup.
✅ You should have smoke alarms on every floor, and a heat alarm in the kitchen.
✅ They should all be interlinked – so if one goes off, they all sound.

⚠️ Don’t forget:
• Test your alarms every week.
• Replace them if they’re over 10 years old.
• Never take the battery out to stop the beeping – it could cost lives.

If you’re not sure your alarms are up to date, or you want a quote to get hardwired interlinked alarms fitted, just drop us a message or give us a call.

Stay safe,
NW Smith Electrical

🔌 RCD or RCBO Tripped? Here’s What To Do! ⚠️
Your RCD/RCBO is there to protect you – it cuts the power when it detects a fault like a shock risk or wiring issue. If it trips:

1️⃣ Unplug everything on that circuit
2️⃣ Try resetting it
3️⃣ Plug items back in one at a time
4️⃣ Still tripping? ⚠️ Call a qualified electrician

🧪 Don’t forget to TEST your RCD every 6 months – press the “T” button to make sure it’s working. If it doesn’t trip, it needs replacing.

👷‍♂️ At NW Smith Electrical, your safety comes first. If you’re unsure or it keeps tripping, we’re here to help.

⚠️ Is Your Fusebox Up to Date? ⚡
A modern fusebox (also known as a consumer unit) is a vital part of your home’s electrical safety system – and at NW Smith Electrical, we’re here to help you stay protected.

Old fuseboxes with rewireable fuses are not as safe or responsive as today’s systems. A modern upgrade includes RCBOs or RCD protection, which instantly cuts power if there’s a fault – reducing the risk of electric shock or fire.

🔧 What’s involved in a fusebox upgrade?
Here’s what you can expect when we carry out the work:
1. Initial inspection – we assess your current system and make sure the incoming supply is suitable.
2. Safe isolation – we’ll disconnect power and safely remove the old fusebox.
3. Installation – we fit a new 18th edition-compliant consumer unit with RCD/RCBO protection.
4. Full testing and certification – we check the circuits meet current regulations and issue an Electrical Installation Certificate.
5. Notification to building control – as a NAPIT-registered business, we’ll take care of this for you (as required by Part P of the building regs).

✅ Peace of mind
✅ Safer for your home and family
✅ Ready for today’s electrical demands

If your fusebox looks dated or you’re unsure if it meets modern standards, give us a call. A fusebox upgrade is one of the best investments you can make in your home’s safety.

🔌 NW Smith Electrical – Registered & Regulated for Your Peace of Mind 🔧

At NW Smith Electrical, we take safety and standards seriously.

✅ We’re proud to be registered with NAPIT and listed on the Competent Person’s Register – meaning our work is regularly assessed and meets strict industry standards.
✅ We work in full compliance with the latest Electrical Regulations (BS 7671) and Part P of the Building Regulations.

But what does that mean for you?

⚡ Electrical Regulations (BS 7671) ensure all electrical work is safe and up to standard – covering everything from installations to rewires.
🏠 Part P is a legal requirement for domestic properties in England and Wales, making sure electrical work is safe and correctly carried out in homes.
🧰 The Competent Person’s Register is a government-approved list of certified electricians – so you know you’re hiring someone qualified and trusted.

Choosing a registered electrician protects your property, your family, and your investment. It also means that work can be signed off and notified to your local authority where required.

If you’re planning electrical work – whether it’s a simple socket change or a full rewire – make sure it’s done safely, properly, and legally.

📢IMPORTANT FIRE SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT📢

This is an urgent fire safety notice from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (Official).

Please remove mirrors or other reflective items from windowsills, ledges, desks or anywhere else the sun light can reach. 🪞

In the past 36 hours, LFRS Fire Crews have been mobilised to three incidents involving make up mirrors, all with a 5x magnification side. One of these incidents could have caused catastrophic damage - this is not a coincidence.

The sun is sitting at the perfect position in the sky to shine straight into first floor windows. Curved mirrors or a glass ornament can act as a lens, concentrating sunlight and starting a fire if the rays are reflected onto something flammable. ☀️

Please share this message across your community. We really don’t want to be attending your property in the next couple of days. 🔥

Thank you for your attention. LFRS
