Losing The Plot

Losing The Plot A place where we share the highs and lows, successes and failures on the journey to self sufficiency. An honest, unfiltered experience.

The allotment is our space to practice and see what works for us before we wave goodbye to the UK to start a homestead.

The transition from early light mornings and long light evenings into darkness is my least favourite time of year. Im already missing the 5.30/6am morning potter round the garden talking to the plants. Yes, im that woman πŸ˜‚ - smock, crocs and a brew talking to plants at 6am.
I've enjoyed watching this dahlia open. Each morning excitedly inspecting her progress...

Ive just learned there is such a thing as plant bingo! What a fab idea! This news was more thrilling than yesterday's eclipse- very underwhelming where i was. Ooo, something that was also more exciting this week - a peak in an elderly ladies greenhouse. She gave me permission to photograph her lovey fig and grapes. I really do enjoy visiting other people's gardens and seeing their joy πŸ₯°

Day off and im up at 5.30 to head to the plots. Avoiding my plot neighbour after she removed branches of my 4yr old golden delicious (which ive grown from a whip)and then lied to my face blaming her daughter. Nice. Its her first year on the plot and I had posts to go in the ground to manipulate the branches of my young tree before she cut them off to place a b&m plastic greenhouse in front of it. T**t. Ooo lookie, I can call you a t**t because its my page. T**tty t**t.

A silent 3 months on here because life has been nuts. Unexpected house move, downsizing(that is away harder than expected), new job and training at the same time as moving - 😬
But, the calm is creeping in. Training finished, new house nearly finished, and the new garden.... started ripping that out as soon as we got in. Priorities and all that.
Moving means no greenhouse this year - no pickles!😭 and the allotment hasn't been its most productive thats for sure. All my leeks went to flower, bees have loved them though.
All seedlings died in the move, we celebrated birthdays with jelly cake, got started drinking the rumptopf and cracked on with the garden. Garden waste tip run tomorrow. Lets get it all looking nice πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ

Well im feeling overly proud this morning. We eat a lot of yoghurt so I figured, let's put it on my DIY food list. I can't believe how easy it was!

Daisy had her first trip to the allotment today while I started the spring tidy up. She was a super star, beautifully behaved and met other plot holders. She wasnt sure about the pond - wait until the frogs appear! im looking forward to sunny evenings on the plot with her keeping me company πŸ₯° pretty lady
