We secured planning permission to create residential accommodation above a shop on Pelham Street, Nottingham — a sensitive conservation-area site near the Lace Market. Facing tight constraints (heritage controls, noise from nightlife, servicing and access limits), we led with planning from day one: early officer engagement, a conservation-led design response, and environmental‑health-led technical measures (enhanced acoustic separation, mechanical ventilation, high-performance glazing).
The result preserves the character of the street, delivers viable homes in underused upper floors, and addresses environmental-health and servicing challenges up front. Projects like this succeed when strategy leads design — not the other way around.
