We have received a lovely thank you email from LionHeart RICS and Lucy Wright. The dircetor even got a certificate đŸ€©

A massive shout out to everyone else involved, who helped raise nearly ÂŁ10,000. Wow, what a brilliant achievement! From nettle stings to long, rainy walks, we all did all of this not only to raise money, but also to raise awareness of the fantastic work LionHeart does. Really proud to have been part of it. 💗 So please remember, you are never alone!! đŸ€ 👐 👂

At Angle Surveys, we love measuring existing buildings. It’s what we specialise in, even the steps!

Steps might not be the most exciting thing to measure, but when they’re measured properly and drawn accurately, the attention to detail makes all the difference to client's AutoCAD drawings and BIM models.

You could even call it artwork!

Measuring existing buildings can be extremely time consuming. Spending days measuring and drawing up an existing building isn’t necessarily always the best use of your time.

That’s where we come in.

We only measure land and buildings. This allows us to support your department or company so you can get on with what you actually need to do; meetings, project management, designing, client engagement, planning, applications, contract administration and everything else that is super important in your day.

We’ll crawl around the cobweb filled loft spaces, damp basements and smelly toilets. It’s not always glamorous, but it’s what Angle Surveys specialise in.

So let us bring an existing building to you, all carried out to RICS professional standards, and free up your valuable time to get on with what you really need to do!

According to Health and Safety Executive (HSE), back conditions account for 43% of all work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in Great Britain.

On a completed land survey, invert levels may look like nothing more than a few small lines, an arrow and a IL number. However, collecting that information can be 'back breaking work', without the right equipment, thorough risk assessments and safe working practices.

At Angle Surveys, health and safety for everyone is our priority. That's why we use specialist equipment to survey inspection chamber invert levels safely and efficiently.

Everyone going home safely results in happy surveyors & happy clients.

Sometimes it’s what you haven’t asked for that makes for a good topographical survey.

The survey extents was the wall, but neighbouring trees added, accurate canopy spreads, major ICs identified from outside the survey area and much more.

Angle Surveys has worked with thousands of Architects, Civil Engineers, Building Surveyors, Landscape Designers and many more built environment professionals, meaning we understand what information is needed, and why it matters.

We’re proud to share that our Director, Marcus Westlund will be taking on a June 50km walking challenge to raise awareness and support for LionHeart.

LionHeart provides vital help to RICS professionals and their families through every stage of life – from early career challenges through to retirement – offering practical, financial and emotional support when it’s needed most.

This challenge is a small way to help shine a light on the incredible work they do, and we’d be truly grateful for any support or donations, no matter how big or small. Every contribution helps make a real difference.

If you’re able to support or share the cause, it would be massively appreciated.

Thank you for helping Marcus and Angle Surveys support such an important charity.

Today some of the Angle Surveys team visited Salts Mill in Saltaire, taking the opportunity to explore one of Yorkshire’s most iconic buildings and view works by David Hockney.

As Chartered Land surveyors, we’re fortunate to spend our careers working with buildings and places that are full of history and tell a story. Salts Mill is a remarkable example of how historic industrial buildings can be preserved, adapted and celebrated for future generations.

Learning later of David Hockney’s passing on our way home made the visit particularly poignant. Born in Bradford, David Hockney became one of Yorkshire’s most influential and internationally recognised artists. His creativity, innovation and unique perspective have inspired generations across the world.

David Hockney’s legacy will undoubtably continue to inspire future generations and the importance of protecting both our built heritage and the cultural legacy that gives these places meaning.

Photographs taken today at Salts Mill, Saltaire.

When Point Clouds Lie: What Is the True Wall Thickness?

Laser scanning is an incredibly powerful survey tool, but understanding its limitations is just as important as capturing the data itself.

Glass, particularly double glazing and mirrors, can refract and reflect laser measurements, introducing duplicated geometry, artefacts, noise and positional inaccuracies into the point cloud. When this occurs repeatedly from multiple scan positions and angles, these distortions can build up within the dataset, making the point cloud inaccurate and more difficult to reliably extract final deliverables from.

That is why at Angle Surveys we meticulously review and clean our point cloud data scan-by-scan, removing erroneous reflections and unwanted data to help ensure our survey drawings are produced to the highest possible level of accuracy and reliability.

Scanning is one thing, understanding shadows is another.

Laser scanning is a powerful tool in a surveyor’s toolkit, but it’s not just about using the right equipment, it’s about placing it correctly.

Even something as simple as a small fence can create significant shadowing. In this case, areas behind the fence are obscured, meaning key details such as inspection chambers (ICs), low boundary wall features, ditches or serious level changes could easily be missed when processing the data back at the office.

Scanning itself is quick on site, but the real skill is anticipating where shadows will occur and ensuring you capture the full picture before leaving site.

It’s not just about collecting data
 it’s about collecting the right data.

A postcard perfect log cabin in North Wales, surveyed to support our client, Architect and engineers for some exciting new proposals.

With the Architect based at the other end of the UK, our brief was simple: capture everything needed so their design team could work with complete confidence, without the need for multiple site visits.

The result:

* Full colour point cloud
* Accurate AutoCAD drawings
* DSLR photography (complimentary)
* Virtual tour (complimentary)
* High precision 3D topographical survey, all tied to Ordnance Survey datum and grid
* Extra survey area (complimentary) to support septic tank designs
