Another EV Charger Installation Completed in Burton Bradstock

This week we completed another electric vehicle charging installation in Bindbarrow, Burton Bradstock, overlooking the Jurassic Coast near Bridport.

The project began with an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) to assess the condition of the existing electrical installation before any new work was carried out. During the inspection we identified a number of issues that needed to be addressed before an EV charger could be installed safely.

As part of the project, we upgraded both the main dwelling and garage consumer units with modern FuseBox consumer units, complete with individual RCBO protection and Type 2 Surge Protection Devices (SPDs).

The existing garage was supplied by an older twin & earth cable installed beneath paving slabs, which wasn’t considered a suitable method of installation for this application. We replaced it with a new steel wire armoured (SWA) submain, providing a robust and reliable supply to the garage for many years to come.

The Ohme Home Pro charger was installed on its own dedicated circuit, incorporating load management to help ensure the property’s electrical supply isn’t overloaded during vehicle charging. Ohme’s smart charging features also make it an excellent choice for customers looking to take advantage of off-peak electricity tariffs, including those offered by Octopus Energy.

Once the installation was complete, we carried out comprehensive testing before issuing the Electrical Installation Certificates and notifying the work through NICEIC.

⚡ Another EV Charger Installation Completed in Lyme Regis ⚡

We recently completed the installation of an Ohme Home Pro EV charger at a property on the historic Rousdon Estate, near Lyme Regis.

The homeowner was preparing to take delivery of a new electric vehicle and wanted a charging solution that would make the most of their Octopus Energy tariff. After discussing the available options, we recommended the Ohme Home Pro thanks to its smart charging features, tethered cable and compatibility with off-peak electricity tariffs.

The charger was installed beneath the existing carport, helping to protect both the charger and the homeowner from the weather while charging. We also planned the cable route carefully, running it externally from the consumer unit to avoid lifting carpets or floorboards inside the property.

To bring the installation in line with current requirements, we upgraded the consumer unit with a dedicated RCBO and Surge Protection Device (SPD), and installed load management to help prevent the property’s electrical supply from becoming overloaded while charging.

Once complete, we carried out full testing, issued the Electrical Installation Certificate and demonstrated the charger and Ohme app to the customer before leaving.

Another EV charger completed this week in Colyton.

This installation was a little different for us as it was our first Ohme Home Pro installation. We’ve installed plenty of EV chargers over the years, but this was our first Ohme, and we have to say we were genuinely impressed.

The setup and commissioning process was straightforward, the app was easy to configure, and the overall quality of the charger is excellent.

One of the biggest advantages of the Ohme Home Pro is its compatibility with Octopus Energy’s smart EV tariffs, allowing the charger to automatically take advantage of cheaper off-peak electricity rates where available. That means customers can often significantly reduce the cost of charging their electric vehicle.

For this installation we also fitted a dedicated EV consumer unit, providing a safe, compliant and future-proof installation.

As always, the work was fully tested, commissioned and certified before being handed over to the customer.

Another consumer unit upgrade completed in Seaton yesterday.

This property is on the same estate as the fuseboard upgrade we shared last week, but unlike that one, this wasn’t originally installed by us.

The homeowner is in the process of modernising their home and wanted the electrical installation checked before continuing with the work. After carrying out an inspection, they decided to replace the existing consumer unit with a modern FuseBox consumer unit, giving every circuit individual RCBO protection, along with the addition of a Surge Protection Device (SPD).

It’s always good to see customers investing in the safety of their home while carrying out improvements. The electrics are often overlooked until problems arise, but having the installation checked before carrying on with modernisation work can help identify any issues early and avoid unnecessary disruption later.

Many properties on this estate were built around the same time, so we’re seeing more homeowners choosing to have their electrical installations assessed and updated where needed.

There are no set hours or fixed days. You work at a time that suits you. Leaflets are supplied in batches of 1,000, and once that batch has been delivered, payment is made. If you’d like to continue, I’ll simply drop off the next batch.

Consumer Unit Upgrade in Seaton – A Job Close to Home

A job today that meant a little more than most.

We replaced this old Crabtree consumer unit in Seaton with a new FuseBox RCBO board and surge protection.

What makes this one special is that the original board was installed by my dad around 1990 when he carried out the electrical installation work throughout the whole development.

More than 35 years later, I found myself standing in the same property upgrading part of an installation he originally wired.

As electricians, we often work on installations without knowing who first put them in. Today I knew exactly who did, and it was nice to see how well the installation had stood the test of time.

The new board now provides individual RCBO protection on every circuit together with surge protection, bringing the installation up to modern standards while continuing the story of the original work.

I think Dad would have approved.
