Precedent Research today before a meeting next week.

A bold, biomimetic shell plugged directly into the side of a Grade II* Victorian Gothic manor. It doesn’t try to mimic the stone or apologise for being modern - it attaches like a living organism, completely contrasting the host while bringing modern energy and purpose to it.

Out on site research today, studying the form, junctions, and detailing at Plas Glyn-y-Weddw ahead of an exciting new collaborative art/cafe project.

When pure sculpture meets habitable space, this is the benchmark. More soon.

Often when removing old cement render from stone walls you find past modifications. Sometimes these can be tragic and sometimes a welcome surprise...in this case the latter. The current 1200x870mm is not the original size as can be noted from the brick infill under the window.

During the 1700s, window openings were often square or slightly taller than they were wide. A 1200 x 1200 opening would have likely housed a timber casement window (the kind that swings out) divided by a central vertical post called a mullion. This would create two tall, narrow glass areas, which was the standard "look" of the period.

This is a great find and we will be returning the window back to it's original proportions.
