This nest was located inside a storage cupboard used for storing tins of paint, the nest was successfully treated and, once safe to do so, completely removed so the cupboard could be put back into use.

People often ask me — just how big can a wasp nest actually grow?

Well, this is a pretty good example!

Certainly one of the biggest I’ve dealt with this season — and the video really doesn’t show the true scale of it.

Due to its sheer size and location, this nest has been treated first, and I’ll be returning later in the week once it’s safe to get closer to remove and dispose of it properly.

And this wasn’t the only problem at the property — two other active wasp nests were also found and treated during the same visit!

When I return to remove this one, I’ll put something alongside it for scale so you can see just how big it actually is.

Keep an eye on the page for the follow-up — I think the size might surprise a few people!

🐝 A substantial loft nest safely dealt with!

This was a particularly large wasp nest located inside a loft and, importantly, quite close to the loft hatch.

Using specialist long-reach treatment equipment, the nest could be treated safely while keeping a sensible distance from the activity.

Once the treatment had been successful and the nest was completely inactive, I returned to safely remove and dispose of it due to its size and position close to the loft access.

A good example of why the right equipment — and knowing how and where to use it — makes a big difference when dealing with larger, awkwardly positioned nests.

🐝 Wasp nests are growing fast!

This is a nest I treated and safely removed today. At this time of year, nests are becoming much larger and far more active, which means the risk of stings increases if they're disturbed.

If you've noticed a steady stream of wasps entering a roofline, garage, shed, bird box or other part of your property, it's worth getting it checked sooner rather than later before the nest grows even bigger.

Garage owners – it's worth checking your up-and-over garage door! 🐝

I've treated several wasp nests this week that were hidden inside the framework of up-and-over garage doors.
The hollow metal frame provides a sheltered, undisturbed space that's ideal for wasps to build a nest, often without the homeowner noticing until activity suddenly increases.
If you see wasps regularly flying to and from the top corners or edges of your garage door, it's worth having it checked before using the door unnecessarily.

🐝 Wasps Can Build Nests Almost Anywhere! 🐝
Today's nest was found inside a garden parasol umbrella – certainly one of the more unusual locations I've come across.
As the weather warms up, wasps will take advantage of all sorts of sheltered spaces including rooflines, sheds, garages, bird boxes, compost bins, play equipment and even garden furniture.
It's a good reminder to stay vigilant and carry out a quick visual check before using items that may have been left undisturbed for a while.
This nest was safely treated and removed, and the customer can now enjoy their garden again with peace of mind.

🐝 Bee or Wasp? Not every buzz is a wasp! 🐝

Although the wasp season is now underway, I'm still receiving a large number of enquiries regarding bees, bumblebees and solitary bees.

Before arranging a treatment, it's always worth trying to identify exactly what you're seeing. A clear photo or short zoomed-in video can often be enough to determine whether it's a wasp nest requiring treatment or a beneficial bee species that should be left alone.

Honey bees, bumblebees and solitary bees all play an important role in our environment and, where possible, should be protected.
If you're unsure what you have, feel free to send over a photo or video and I'll do my best to help with identification.
