That’s why for Men’s Health Awareness Month we are encouraging people to stay connected, talk more, know their bodies and be more active throughout November. Today we welcomed inspirational speaker and one of the world’s best rugby referees, Nigel Owens MBE, into our head office to speak to our team about his story of dealing with adversity.

💭 Nigel shared some advice about how you as an installer can take care of your mental health:
“Most people at some stage in life struggle with some kind of mental health. Don’t be afraid to talk about it, share those experiences, because you’ll probably find that someone else is going through something similar."

At the end of last year, we commissioned research that revealed a worrying number of homeowners in the UK are either turning a blind eye or are ill-informed when it comes to gas safety in the home. The findings showed that incredibly 63% do not check and replace batteries in their home carbon monoxide detector and more than 40% are failing to have their annual boiler service, simply because it costs too much. As the cost living crisis deepens, this stat is only likely to increase as people are forced to make some tough decisions.

Darran Smith, Technical Manager at Alpha, comments:

“Daily use of your household’s heating system can take its toll on the various components that make up your boiler. As such, making sure it is serviced annually is important so it can continue to function as intended.

“A faulty or incorrectly fitted boiler can cause severe health problems such as carbon monoxide poisoning which, due to its odourless properties, can be a silent killer. Alternatively, you could also experience a gas leak without realising it, which in the most severe cases, can potentially cause a house fire."
