For a long time I felt a failure at lots of things.
I beat myself up because I didn’t make it to every sports day, I was often working in the evenings, I sometimes forgot parents evening and (honestly, shoot me now!) I didn’t religiously give my kids a bath every night 🥺🫣 - according to the mums groups I was part of - MASSIVE failure.
I got divorced and I blamed myself for ‘being a failure’ .
My business had plateaud- for reasons some out of my control, some in my control… FAILURE!
I had a choice.
Wallow- allowing myself to believe I was a failure.
Or step back.
Review, reflect, reassess and develop a strategy.
A strategy that covered both my personal and my professional life.
A strategy that meant I could buy myself time to spend with my family, move my business from surviving to really thriving and move on from my divorce.
So, what did I do?
Restructured my business so I was not the person everyone came to all of the time.
Implemented new working practices for my team so everyone knew what their role was, what was expected of them, when it was expected and how they could achieve it.
Reassessed the offering we had as a business, tightened up areas of inefficiency, upskilled employees who were underperforming and set specific and measurable ways to monitor our service levels (both internal and external) moving forwards.
I started with the people, I fundamentally believe that a successful business starts with the people in it. We worked together. We identified skills gaps, and we filled them, through internal upskilling and external recruitment.
I matched the people to the role (not the other way round) and I coached them to take accountability for their responsibilities.
I created a SMT and I handed over the day to day running to them.
I worked through every aspect of my business; reviewed it, tweaked it where necessary, and aligned it to my strategic plan.
I DID NOT FAIL 👏🏽
In fact, the opposite happened.
My business flew. My team were motivated, engaged and happy. I could step back.
I gave talks about how I turned my business around.
I got to spend time with my family.
I went to sports day and I rarely missed a parents evening. I’ll be honest though- my children still didn’t have a bath every night ☺️
My life was Calm, not Chaotic.
Sounds good? Drop me a DM to talk about how I can help you do the same 🚀✨
