🚧 Team MAM on the Move 🚧

Team MAM has arrived in Oban as preparations continue for our Luing Slate Quarry contract.

Our excavators are being loaded onto the barge for the journey across to the Isle of Luing, ready for work to begin on this exciting project to help reopen the historic slate quarry.

At MAM Contracting, we believe that every successful project starts with listening.

Yesterday, our Managing Director, Mike Melville, and Construction Manager, Barrie Chiverton, spent the day on the Isle of Luing meeting with members of the local community ahead of our contract to reopen the historic Slate Quarry.

It was a fantastic opportunity to introduce ourselves, answer questions, and discuss the plans for the project. We appreciate the warm welcome we received and the valuable conversations we had throughout the day.

We’re proud to be entrusted with this significant project and are committed to working closely with the local community, stakeholders, and our project partners as we move forward. Open communication, collaboration, and respect for the island and its heritage will be at the heart of everything we do.

We look forward to sharing updates as work progresses and to playing our part in bringing this historic quarry back into operation.

🚧 Project Progress | MAM Contracting

Another challenging civil engineering project is well underway, with our team making excellent progress on a complex project.

Working alongside our client, we’ve successfully:
✔️ Carried out excavations to depths of over 4 metres
✔️ Safely removed and reinstated manhole box systems
✔️ Managed challenging groundwater conditions through continuous pumping
✔️ Installed trench support systems to enable safe working at depth
✔️ Backfilled and compacted excavations in preparation for the next phase
✔️ Implemented robust environmental protection measures, including silt control and responsible material management

Projects like this demand more than just machinery—they require careful planning, experienced operators and an unwavering commitment to health, safety and environmental best practice.

The aerial images really highlight the scale of the operation and the progress our team has made in a relatively short space of time.

A huge well done to everyone involved for their professionalism, teamwork and dedication. It’s another great example of MAM Contracting delivering complex civil engineering projects safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.

Another Project Successfully Completed ✔️

MAM Contracting were pleased to support Perth & Kinross Council with the replacement of a series of deteriorated timber steps at Victoria Park in Aberfeldy.

The existing steps had reached the end of their serviceable life, so our team removed the rotten structures and installed new, robust timber steps, helping to improve safety and accessibility for everyone using the park.

We’re proud to work alongside local authorities, delivering high-quality infrastructure improvements that make a real difference to communities across Scotland.

A big thank you to Perth & Kinross Council for trusting MAM Contracting with this project.

🌲⚡ Progress powering Scotland’s renewable future.

The MAM Contracting team is currently carrying out site clearance and tree removal works at Braco, supporting the development of a new wind farm project in partnership with Scottish Woodlands.

🏗️ A Landmark Project for Scotland's Heritage 🏗️

MAM Contracting is proud to announce our appointment by the Isle of Luing Community Trust to deliver the works required to reopen the historic Cullipool Slate Quarry on the Isle of Luing.

After more than 60 years of inactivity, this iconic quarry is set to return authentic West Highland slate to the market, supporting the conservation of Scotland's historic buildings while creating new opportunities for the local community. The project will play a key role in restoring a traditional industry that once helped shape the island's economy and Scotland's built heritage.

Our works will include the redevelopment of the quarry infrastructure, helping prepare the site for production from Spring 2027. This is a project that combines civil engineering expertise with heritage preservation, sustainability, and long-term community benefit.

As Mike Melville, Director of MAM Contracting, commented:

"This isn't just a civil engineering project—it's about restoring a 60-year chapter in Scotland's built heritage. We're proud to play our part in bringing authentic West Highland slate back to Scotland's historic buildings."

🌿 Project Complete | B934 F***y Burn Culvert Replacement 🌿

MAM Contracting is proud to announce the successful completion of essential culvert replacement works at F***y Burn on the B934.

Located within the catchment area of the Loch Leven Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), this project required a careful balance between delivering critical infrastructure improvements and protecting the surrounding natural environment. Our team worked diligently to ensure the safe and efficient replacement of the existing culvert, enhancing the long-term resilience of the road network while minimising environmental impact.

This project is another example of MAM Contracting’s commitment to delivering high-quality civil engineering solutions across Scotland, with safety, sustainability and workmanship at the forefront of everything we do.
