My story
I was auto transferred to British Gas when my provider went bust. But I’ve been fighting with them for over a year to resolve basic technical issues with smart meters, monitor and tariffs. The latest British Gas TV advert Nov 2022 is to reward customers with monthly cash incentives when they avoid using energy at peak usage times which must be the biggest insult to customers and false advertising EVER. Because without the latest smart meters it is IMPOSSIBLE to monitor or prove the time of use. Therefore they boldly advertise rewards that the majority will NEVER receive. Most energy companies are in the exactly the same dilemma because they don’t listen to their customers and won’t act because they haven’t got the resources.
With Octopus their new smart meters (with 30 minute readings) were installed within weeks of joining, you can choose one of their innovative ‘time of use’ tariffs to receive electricity at off peak times which can drop to a few pence per KW or even GET PAID to USE off peak electricity going to waste!!! Because electricity can’t be stored, it HAS to be used even if it is given away.
