What are the steps we need to take to make our traditional buildings flood ready in a time of rapid climate change?

Oliver Goddard, conservation architect at Arc, was invited to speak on this topic at the Scottish Lime Centre Trust's 'Building Conservation Masterclass'. There are those great days in a project when the things you have been imagining in drawings and words for years start to become reality. This week we are delighted to appoint Cubby Construction as main contractor for the Annan Harbour restoration project.

Over the next two years, this wonderful but derelict harbour and former town dump will be transformed into a vibrant community and visitor facility within a restored natural environment.

Wonderful discussion last night with Julian Stair and Rebearth in Leith at Talks at the Lane.

We all create with clay, with strong resonances between disciplines, but also clear points of difference. In the house of clay there is a thin but important wall between the room of the ceramicist and the room of the earth builder. Creating a pot is a linear process to create an object, transformed through fire into a new life, whereas creating an earth building borrows clay for a while to take other form, with the inevitability of return to ground.
