Working Saturday after 65 hours worked Monday to Friday. But when the customer turns out to be a legend. Fresh local strawberries from the adjacent farm,
Bit of banter, drinks offered before I even closed the van door and phone out ready to transfer before I even left.

Georgina, you are absolute star.

I'm away to finally relax, with some much needed family time

Have a good weekend 🫢🏻

Completed guttering for one my biggest fans, Roger has passed my name onto many, always likes my posts and honestly is a great guy to work for. Waited for me as he knew how busy I was,but finally done and typical Roger sense of humor

" That's not bad, you'd think you had done that before " 🀣

No more wonky gutters, no more drops from joints, just smooth new gutters that will last decades.

Thank you Roger for your continued support and a blether along the way. I never know what story I will hear πŸ˜….

These are the customers that make all the stresses of running a business worth it. 🫢🏻

Called to fit a vent on this roof.
I actually repaired tiles as an apprentice and told the owner it needed replacing soon.
Only one street in the town that have these somerset 13 tiles on
I'm that sad roofer who can name about every tile on the market by sight πŸ™ˆ

Has anyone noticed a trend appearing. The more people I speak to recently, something has become apparent.

Mental health is such an important thing for Soo many of us and with that people are cutting ties with those who make us feel bad, don't support our achievements and drain our energy with their negativity.

Today I met someone who the first thing they said was " your sign " caution men working above" was sexist, why doesn't it mention woman"
" Obviously because women wouldn't cause any danger like men"

To which I replied well as I'm the only person working it's technically correct and carried on.

Then later asked me why I was spoonie and not scoonie " did you miss spell it" 🫒 nope haven't named my business and everything I work towards to support those living with chronic fatigue.
To which I was told fibromyalgia isn't life long it goes away.
Nope it's life long and does have waves of being unbearable and other times it's manageable.

Then told how their partner had a much worse condition and passed away from it.
Didn't realise it was a competition on who is struggling more.

And then how successful and how much money there kids made.

Honestly it was a real delight πŸ˜…πŸ€£.

I am seriously tempted to reply " I don't have enough spoons for you today " 🀣

Support your friends and family, their successes you join the celebration, their hard times you bring them back up.

I debated if I should post or not.
This isn't an attention seeking post, it's a post to say taking 10 minutes to speak to someone can completely change their day.

Life is Soo busy, we are expected to work 40+ hours or if your self employed 60+ hours.
We have kids with activities every night after school. No time for social life.
And if we just stop for 5 minutes to speak to someone it's amazing what it does for you.

I stopped and was speaking to a customer about a job 2 doors down from where I have just completed a re-roof.
Said how nice a job I had made and what a difference to the property.
Genuinely my first boss ridiculed me so 17 years later I still can't accept a compliment 😬.
Then asked why I named the business spoonie roofing.
Explained with my fibromyalgia that I wanted to spread awareness of people living with chronic fatigue.

After only a few minutes he changed my day.
He said honestly " I want you to do the job, you have amazing passion for your work, and inspiring you have done an entire roof on your own living with pain and fatigue"

Honestly this man made my day, as I said I'm not looking for sympathy, I don't push myself for likes, or comments. I truly love what I do, trust me the battle to fight fibromyalgia in a Scottish weather you have to be passionate or maybe just a little mad 🫣.

But honestly Kieran thank you, it's people like you who make me push myself to do the absolute best on every job.

Today I met a customer who also has fibromyalgia.

And two customers asked why my business was named SpoonieRoofingLtd.

Came home to a customer I've recently fixed her flat roofs and she left a review on a local page.
All customers I've worked for locally

Honestly needed this today. I've realised you can't please everyone. I work 6 days a week trying to keep customers happy at the expense of health and family time.

And after a rubbish start to the day this was the fuel to keep going.
My fibro has been flaring with the weather constantly changing, and not pacing myself. But I love my work, I love the feeling of accomplishment that I can push past pain and fatigue barriers to give a voice for those struggling with invisible illnesses.

Love to all my supporters 🫢🏻

I want to thank those customers today, who invoices sent out last night. 4 invoices paid within a day.

One of the biggest stresses running a business is getting paid.
On a weekly basis I have invoices that are overdue.
When people wait till the very last day to pay, it's an added stress for the business owner and actually for me anyway, when the money does come in, it loses the effect of being paid.
When a customer pays within the day, you feel valued, appreciated and clears your head to get on with the next job.

Happy Tuesday πŸ₯„

People ask me when I'm getting a hand to do roofs.

The truth is, unless you know the feeling of satisfaction after completing a bigger job on your own.
Then you will never understand it.
Still get the same sense of accomplishment now as I did 17 years ago when I did my first roof myself.

Massive thank you to everyone on the village who stopped and complimented the work.

No rest, 2 reroofs already started while waiting for the weather to improve to get the cement work done on this one
