EV owners listen up. If you are at a public charger, and you get this or a similar error, before charging, or soon after starting, the following might just get you out of a spot. Unplug the charger cable, lock your car, and wait for the car to "sleep". This is usually when all of the lights go off on your clocks, or the dials drop to the very bottom. If in doubt, wait 2 minutes. Wake the car back up by unlocking the car and start the charge again. Below is what I have discovered, or certainly for my van anyway. If you aren't interested in techy stuff, stop reading, it gets boring from here.
So my van is used for work, so doors are opened and closed all day, and this brings on the interior lights, and wakes up the BSI. This drains the 12v battery over the course of the day and so the voltage it is at drops. And here starts the issue. The communication between the vehicle and DC chargers is 2-way, using a system that isn't necessarily perfect for this purpose, but this needs a voltage mid-point. Now from what I can ascertain, the mid point of the vehicle battery voltage is taken as the half voltage at the time the vehicle was started last, so when your battery had a lower voltage, and the frequency mid point is set there. The issue is, the battery voltage is actually higher, as it has charged a bit, so now there is a difference between Ve+ and Ve- when swinging from one side of the wave to the other. This seems to distort and "clip" the waveform, and this confuses the communication between the 2. Once the BSI sleeps and wakes, it shifts, not a lot, but it seems to make a difference.
How do I know this? Because the dealer wanted nearly £300 to diagnose why my van wasn't charging on public chargers, and wouldn't tell me what they were looking for, so I decided to figure it out myself. I will try and download the waveforms and share them, but I've not had an issue since, and I've helped a few people out in the same situation, all have worked. Hope this helps someone in a bit of a stress!

Welding up some frames for storing stuff higher than other stuff.
Not going to be welding for Sponden anytime soon, but seems to be solid. Now with Edward Tipton getting painted up ready to be used in anger. On a separate note, anyone know a decent electrician? The wire on my welder appears to need attention 🤷

What a week this has been. Massive gas leak - sorted, ongoing work on a Moto GP hospitality suite (imagine telling the younger me that I would one day work for the people who are my heroes 🤯), ongoing work for my friends over at Axiom, a NAPIT inspection on my electrical installation work in Jet Aire, 2 callouts for Starbucks, one of which I got to use my total waste of money of a plastic welder, callout for EV Chargers not working at Sarens, ongoing work at The Green Florist in Norton (honestly, go buy flowers from there, what a gorgeous family they are!), welding on an evening to keep the work going and
The very last job of one of the busiest weeks ever, I see this. At the time I was watching my heroes race bikes in the Moto GP, I was also playing on my Amiga, and somehow, in a weird sort of way, seeing this just nicely tied up that huge nostalgia. Couldn't have done any of it without some amazing people around me, getting multiple ongoing jobs over the line, and I'm so grateful for them all.
In no particular order, everyone who has helped this week actually happen

Pure Property Maintenance - smashing out the facilities work, laying the foundations for everything Conducting has become

R H Joinery - smashing out the joinery work

Convecting ltd - tackling the gas and plumbing work like a boss

Gemini decor - find me a better decorator, I challenge you!

LEW Electrical Distributors - Stockton branch making my electrical work possible, absolutely out of this world service

NAPIT Being there for their members, with superb support and keeping our clients confident of our ability to carry out our work properly!

Hsa Plumbing Merchants - if you want plumbing stuff/bathroom stuff please don't default to the big players, come see these guys, they are the loveliest family who work hard for everyone. They have literally kept me in business's when times have been the toughest.

Sarens Uk Ltd for their support of us small business', huge appreciation!

San Seb Coffee - how could I even function without the coffee from Mike? He fuels my chaos! Another small business who supports local small business'

Owen my apprentice - what a guy, he's a bully, he is inconveniently tall, but what a guy. Never a mumble, always a grafter and after a customer review this week, a true credit. To have a customer singing your apprentices praises and specifically mentioning that they would love him to stay on at the end of his apprenticeship is borderline tearjerking. (Don't tell him though, I'm trying to bring him down a peg)

And really importantly, Samantha Claire Donnelly and Miah. The 2 girls who have to put up with me, day on and day out. Never could I have imagined I would be on this crazy journey turning Conducting Ltd. into what it has become today, and it would never have happened if it wasn't for my incredible wife and my little blonde furry best friend.

All of this because of a mouse mat. The most random thing has literally stopped me in my tracks and reflect on where things are today.

Next step - getting help with office work!

Time to enjoy the weekend, dance to music, probably get a bit tipsy, probably have a hung over Sunday, but life is for the living.

Tomorrow is international Women's day too. I don't need a day to appreciate the women in my life, I try my best to do this every day. From old friends, new friends, colleagues, customers, suppliers and that one woman who stole my job, I hope you all use it as an excuse to realise how amazing you all are.

I've now got Scooter - Weekend in my head, because above all else, I'm still a chav

3 previous visits from contractors didn't find any fault in this school. Working alongside Convecting ltd. lead to a "let's just double check" moment. Watching the pressure drop on the line showed a leak which wasn't insignificant. Multiple issues with non-compliances and a build-up of gas on a roof space made it a fairly dangerous situation. Suspect a mixture of formaldehyde from the ply in contact with the steel and potentially bitumen limiting the air supply, accelerating the production of acidic by-products are I think most likely to have fed the fire with this one. Overall, lucky it was found, and hopefully no more issues to find when the remedial work is carried out. Sometimes, it takes more than just following the book, to find issues. Whether electrical, gas or anything, it takes a bit of knowledge from multiple disciplines to really better understand these types of issues. None of the traditional methods were finding this, as the leak was permeating into the ply, leaving a "bubble test" useless. Only a basic understanding of corrosion mechanisms was finding it without huge disturbances.

Today was a fun day. I put my Contigo in my pocket, but forgot to shut the lid, so burned my crotch. I then drilled a post to put up some signs and didn't realise water was coming out. Owen the apprentice then thought it was funny to put my brew on the tallest thing in the room (haway lad, I'll like 2' tall), we started manufacturing some kitchen parts for a client. So whatever your electrical needs, i.not sure who you should even call at this stage😂😂.

This is why reading reviews for companies online is a waste of time. This person selling me reviews can't even be bothered to proofread their own sales pitch! Stick to using people with good recommendations, people who are registered or people who showcase good work often (I know, I don't post nearly as much as I should, but I rely on word of mouth, recommendations and sheer charm). Anyway, I "gurrented" to do my best for everyone.

Just another Zappi EV charger install. For exciting information, see previous 4000 Zappi installs on my feed. Still the best on the market. Position not my favourite, but exactly where the client wanted it.

Removing some stains in a carpet JHS Carpets

11/12/2024

Lab-b-gone. Stuff removed, electrics changed a bit, some damage repaired , made the repairs look less like a child had done them and a nice new JHS Carpets to set it off. Owen the apprentice learning scribe cuts on skirting boards and generally, turned out alright for a bunch of amateurs. Music significant only because the working day is getting a bit long now 😂. Need to take more photos of these things!

Can't take too much credit for this, as the apprentice smashed this out of the park. A notoriously difficult product to work with and he has done an incredible job. It's beginning to look a lot like...a lab, I guess.

Was an old style TV (which I didn't take a photo of, so here is a rubbish cropped one). I made it a hole, which I made worse by accidentally damaging the melamine, making the area needing filled bigger. I filled the hole with a new TV with some wood and stuff. Was a bit of a tricky job in the end.
