Have you heard of the saying, “Pay cheap, pay twice”?
We were called out to this property this morning to look at why the air conditioning system wasn’t working. We actually quoted for this installation three years back and was unsuccessful as we were more expensive than another company
Let’s start with the major issues
- firstly as you can see from the picture of the isolator. These contractors thought it would be a good idea to have top entry into the isolator. Obviously the problem with this is that water can then get inside the isolator. When they were called out last year, there solution was to add more silicone and to wriggle the cable about to get it working which worked for a few weeks
- secondly the indoor unit has been positioned so close to the ceiling we are now unable to open the front cover to complete an annual service. Another problem with this is that this fails the installation specifications outlined by the manufacturer as there’s inadequate air flow coming into the top of the unit. Unfortunately the solution for this is to reposition the indoor unit
- the position of the outdoor condenser unit is so poor. Personally we wouldn’t fit it so close to the window, and we would also ensure that it’s level. This is just basic things that should be 100% correct when completing the installation
- lastly, although not going to affect the functionality of the system. These contractors have used Inaba Denko, like us. But instead of fitting a few £2 connectors to connect the lengths of trunking together, they’ve used black tape. Unbelievable
We totally understand in business some people/companies are going to be cheaper, it’s the nature of the beast. But just be careful about who you do go with. If you can, always check out their previous works. If a person/company doesn’t post their works on social media, perhaps there’s a reason as to why
The company that fitted this system is still in operation today (I’m not going to name them) so always do your due diligence when it comes to picking which AC company you go with. If you’re unsure, just pick Herts Air Conditioning 😜
