Glue Traps Ban in the UK: Licensing Requirements
As of July 31, 2024, it is illegal in England for members of the public to use glue traps to catch rodents, with offenders facing fines or up to 51 weeks in prison. Licensed professional pest controllers may use them in exceptional circumstances. Wales has a total ban, and Scotland will ban the sale and use of glue traps from July 1, 2026.

Key Details on the Glue Trap Ban (as of 2026):
England: Under the Glue Traps (Offences) Act 2022, setting a glue trap is an offence unless authorized by a license. Only licensed pest controllers can use them, and only when necessary.
Wales: The Agriculture (Wales) Act 2023 has instituted a full ban on the use of glue traps.
Scotland: The Wildlife Management and Muirburn (Scotland) Act 2024 will ban the use, sale, and possession of glue traps from July 1, 2026.
Sale and Purchase: While use by the public is illegal in England, the sale of glue traps is not entirely outlawed, though it is highly restricted.
Penalty: Illegal use can result in fines, imprisonment, or both.
