Energy bills are back in the headlines. After Octoberâs price cap change took the typical annual household bill to around ÂŁ1,723, analysts are forecasting a further rise of roughly 16% in January 2027, about ÂŁ276, bringing it to around ÂŁ1,999. Thatâs a forecast, not a confirmed figure, and what you pay depends on how much energy you use. The price cap limits unit rates and standing charges; it doesnât cap your total bill.
One way to reduce how much electricity you buy from the grid is to generate some at home. Every kilowatt-hour your solar panels produce and you use is one less kilowatt-hour to buy at the capped rate. Solar wonât cover every need, especially through darker winter months, and installation is an investment, but it can help you rely less on changing energy prices over time.
