At first glance, this conifer hedge reduction may look particularly severe, but there was an important reason for taking it back this far.
Over the years, this established hedge had grown considerably out towards the adjoining public footpath. With pedestrian access and safety to consider, it needed to be brought back within the property boundary.
With mature conifers, however, there is a limit to how far they can be cut back while retaining green foliage. In this case, reducing it sufficiently from the footpath would have meant cutting well beyond the green growth and leaving a permanently bare, brown face.
The client's solution was therefore to retain the conifer hedge on the garden side, where they can continue to enjoy the greenery and privacy it provides, while having the roadside face cut back to the main stems to allow a new fence to be installed along the boundary.
Once the new fence is in place, the exposed stems you can see in our 'after' photographs will be concealed, creating a much more suitable long-term boundary alongside the public footpath.
A substantial amount of material was removed, with all arisings taken away and responsibly recycled. Appropriate traffic and pedestrian management was also used while our team worked alongside the highway and footpath.
Sometimes the finished result makes much more sense when you know what comes next!
