The importance of proper sample taps....
No matter how good your commissioning is it can all fall down at the final hurdle of sampling. Poor sampling technique can mean the difference between connection or not and can result in days or even weeks of delays with the associated costs, which can sometimes be phenomenal.
This is especially important on wet sites where there are risks of frost stats lying in water as unless under pressure these will not seat and you risk sucking dirty water (look up venturi effect) into the sample steam. We fell foul of this many years ago due to bad sampling techniques by a Water Undertakers Sampling Technician. It cost us 2 repeat bad sample results and huge issues for our client.
Using a proper sample tap allows the hydrant and sample point to be correctly disinfected and seats the frost stat, thus providing an accurate sample.
Don't cut corners, or allow your commissioning company to do so, use the correct equipment for the job.
