This week we removed a standard efficiency floor standing cast iron Potterton Kingfisher MF. Replacing it with a high efficiency Vaillant EcoTec Plus 415. We also replaced the old unsupported Nest controller and fitted Hive smart controls. On top of that we installed a Vaillant Advance protection filter and Powerflushed the heating system to ensure optimum efficiency and to prolong the life of the new boiler & existing system.
After 1-day of running the customer has informed me that their new boiler is saving them around £1/day when heating their hot water in the morning for 2-hours. That’s £365/year or £3650 over 10-years (the length of the guarantee). We expect to see further savings in comparison to their old boiler when heating season comes around.

This highlights the importance of annual boiler servicing. This Worcester Greenstar Ri must have the burner gasket replaced every 5-years or when products of combustion are detected above the burner gasket when carrying out a CO sweep. I actually changed this burner gasket 5-years ago, every service since has been fine until this service where POC’s were detected. I carry these as van stock, enabling me to carry out a second level service without the need for another visit 👍🏽

I’m back! Sorry I’ve been so quiet, last month was a struggle with illness and ongoing projects at home. Here’s a little boiler change I did recently for a long standing customer in Wallingford. We replaced an oversized heat only boiler for a correctly sized one. Enabling the boiler to achieve the right return temperatures (below 54°C) to ensure it condenses so we can achieve 10% extra efficiency when the condensing happens inside the boiler and not outside!

**POLITE NOTICE**

Today is the second time in less than a week where I have arrived at someone’s house and found nobody is home. When you book appointments online you are sent a confirmation email from Calendly (this can end up in spam folder so please check). It also says we require a minimum of 24-hours notice when cancelling appointments.
I am self employed, if I don’t work, I don’t get paid. When you book a slot and are not home this takes away my ability to earn a living. Not only that but wasted fuel driving to your house, when I could be with another customer being paid for my time. If this continues I will be forced to take payments upfront for appointments.

If your radiators only get hot at the top & cold at the bottom. Or you’re constantly having to vent your radiators then I suspect the system is full of sludge (iron oxide). Check out the inside of this 15mm pipework! Unfortunately whoever replaced the boiler 3-years ago didn’t clean the system properly.
After a thorough Powerflush, the water is no longer black and the heating is working efficiently again 👍🏽
