๐Ÿ—๏ธ Project Update โ€“ Wiseton Pumping Station
SGH Civils is making good progress with alteration and enabling works at Wiseton Pumping Station on behalf of the IDB.

The existing 8m ร— 4m timber building has now been safely dismantled and removed. Our team is currently breaking out the existing brickwork in preparation for installing the new structural steel lintels and creating the widened 2.6m opening.

The remaining works include core drilling two 150mm-diameter cable openings through the existing 360mm brick wall, installing the new steelwork and padstones, removing the internal timber kiosk, and making good the exposed brickwork with cement render.

All activities are being carefully coordinated within the pumping-station environment, with safety and the protection of the existing structure remaining our priorities.

We look forward to sharing further progress as the project develops.

๐Ÿ’ง Why are drainage interceptors and attenuation systems so important?

Effective drainage is about much more than moving water from one place to another. The right drainage solutions help protect the environment, reduce flood risk, and keep sites operating safely all year round.

Here's how they work:

๐Ÿ›ข๏ธ Drainage Interceptors
Interceptors are designed to capture oil, fuel, and other pollutants from surface water before they enter the drainage network or local watercourses. They're commonly installed in car parks, industrial estates, fuel stations, and commercial sites where there's a risk of contamination.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ Attenuation Systems
Attenuation systems temporarily store excess rainwater during heavy rainfall, releasing it at a controlled rate into the drainage network. This helps reduce the risk of flooding, prevents drainage systems from becoming overwhelmed, and supports sustainable water management.

The benefits include:

โœ”๏ธ Reducing the risk of localised flooding
โœ”๏ธ Helping protect the environment from pollution
โœ”๏ธ Managing surface water more effectively
โœ”๏ธ Supporting compliance with drainage and environmental requirements
โœ”๏ธ Improving the long-term resilience of commercial and industrial sites

At SGH Civils & Surfacing, we deliver drainage and civil engineering solutions tailored to the needs of each project. From interceptor installations to attenuation systems and associated groundworks, our experienced team works to ensure every solution is built for performance, reliability, and longevity.

๐Ÿ“ž If you're planning a new development or upgrading an existing site, get in touch with our team to discuss the right drainage solution for your project.

Did you know? Not all asphalt is the same! ๐Ÿšง

Choosing the right type of asphalt is essential for creating a surface that's safe, durable, and built to handle its intended use.

Here are some of the most common types:

๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธ Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA)
The most widely used option for roads, car parks, and commercial areas. It's strong, long-lasting, and ideal for high-traffic environments.

๐Ÿš— Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA)
Designed for roads carrying heavier traffic, SMA offers excellent durability, improved skid resistance, and increased resistance to rutting.

๐Ÿก Close-Graded Asphalt
A smooth, even finish that's commonly used for driveways, footpaths, and general surfacing projects where appearance and practicality are equally important.

๐Ÿ’ง Porous Asphalt
This specialist asphalt allows water to drain through the surface, helping to reduce standing water and improve drainage in suitable locations.

Choosing the right material depends on several factors, including traffic levels, drainage requirements, budget, and the intended use of the area.

At SGH Civils & Surfacing, we work with our clients to recommend the most suitable surfacing solution for every projectโ€”whether it's a commercial yard, access road, car park, or public highway.

๐Ÿ“ž Planning a surfacing project? Our experienced team is here to help you find the right solution from the ground up.

Progress Update | Cusworth, Doncaster ๐Ÿšง

Great progress continues on our valued clientโ€™s housing development in Cusworth, Doncaster, with the SGH team delivering works across both civils and surfacing.

โœ… Kerbing is now complete throughout the site
๐Ÿงฑ Our civils teams are working hard to complete the block-paved margins and PCC edgings
๐Ÿšœ Last week also marked another key milestone, with SGH Surfacing laying the first phase of base and binder

Itโ€™s great to see the site taking shape and the different SGH teams working together to keep the programme moving forward.

A big thank you to everyone involved for their continued hard work and commitment to delivering a quality finish for our client.

More progress to come! ๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

Why is kerbing so important?

Kerbing does much more than create a neat finish โ€“ it's a key part of a durable, well-designed surface.

Here are just a few of the benefits:

โœ”๏ธ Improved durability โ€“ Kerbs help contain the surface material, reducing movement and helping to extend the life of roads, car parks, and paved areas.

โœ”๏ธ Better drainage โ€“ Correctly installed kerbs help direct surface water towards drainage systems, reducing standing water and helping to protect the surface.

โœ”๏ธ Enhanced safety โ€“ Clearly defined edges help separate vehicles, pedestrians, and landscaped areas, improving safety and organisation.

โœ”๏ธ A professional finish โ€“ Well-installed kerbing creates clean lines and gives any project a high-quality, finished appearance.

โœ”๏ธ Protection for surrounding areas โ€“ Kerbs help prevent vehicles from mounting grass verges, footpaths, and landscaped areas, reducing damage and ongoing maintenance.

At SGH Civils & Surfacing, we install kerbing as part of a wide range of commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects, ensuring every job is built to last from the ground up.

๐Ÿšง Pighill Allotments โ€“ Project Update ๐ŸŒฑ

Weโ€™re pleased to say the Pighill Allotments project is now nearing completion! ๐Ÿ‘

The majority of the works are now complete, with the site really starting to take shape.

There are just a few final elements remaining, including:
๐Ÿ—๏ธ Modular buildings due for delivery early September
๐Ÿ“ฆ Shipping containers
๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ A small number of footpaths still to be surfaced

Once these final works are completed, the site will be ready to hand over and provide a fantastic new allotment facility for the local community. ๐ŸŒฟ

A big thank you to everyone involved in the project so far โ€” another great scheme delivered by the team at SGH Civils & Surfacing. ๐Ÿ’ช

We recently carried out remedial works to a private driveway on behalf of a valued return client โ€“ thank you for choosing us once again!
