🌪️ WELCOME TO TEAM TORNADO, CHRIS! 🌪️

We’re delighted to officially announce that Chris will be joining Tornado Pest Control Limited as our newest full-time Pest Control Technician from Thursday 1st October 2026💚

After receiving over 40 applications, followed by shortlisting, telephone interviews and finally face-to-face interviews, choosing the right person to join our growing team was incredibly important to us.

Of course, qualifications and experience were essential, and Chris certainly brings plenty of both.

With around 13 years’ experience within the pest control industry, an RSPH Level 2 qualification, Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience to Tornado.

But qualifications were only part of what we were looking for.

Throughout the recruitment process, we kept coming back to one thing:

Would this person fit into the Tornado family and deliver the level of customer service our customers have come to expect from us?

With Chris, we felt the answer was absolutely yes. 🙌

Chris came across as extremely personable, down-to-earth and genuinely passionate about doing a good job. We felt immediately that his personality would fit brilliantly within our existing team.

Customer service has always been at the heart of Tornado. We don’t just want great pest technicians, we want people our customers feel comfortable welcoming into their homes and businesses.

Someone professional and knowledgeable, but also friendly, approachable and able to have a laugh along the way.

And Chris definitely comes with just the right amount of Yorkshire banter! 😂

The last few months have seen Tornado continue to grow across both our domestic and commercial work, so bringing another experienced technician into the business feels like another massive milestone for us.

Chris officially joins Team Tornado on Thursday 1st October, and we can’t wait to get him into the Tornado uniform, out on the road and meeting our fantastic customers.

Welcome aboard, Chris! 🌪️💚

The Tornado family is growing.

Stronger Together. 🌪️

Busy day of interviews today as we search for the next member of Team Tornado! 🌪️

We’ve met some great candidates and we’re definitely off to a good start. 👏

Finding the right person to join our growing team is a big decision, so we’re taking our time to make sure we find the right fit.

Obviously, we’ve still managed to squash a full English in between interviews… priorities! 🤣🍳🥓

Exciting times ahead for Team Tornado! 💚🌪️

🔥 THIS is why professional steam is such a valuable part of our bed bug treatments! 🔥

Every bed bug you can see in this photo was collected immediately after we passed our professional bed bug steam unit over just one heavily infested bed frame. 😳

Adults, nymphs and eggs can be hiding deep within joints, seams, cracks and fixings. Using high-temperature steam allows us to target these harbourage areas and kill exposed bed bugs and eggs on contact, massively reducing the live population before our chemical treatment is even applied.

🪳 Why not just use insecticide?

Professional insecticides are extremely important, but they don’t necessarily provide an instant kill. Bed bugs may need to cross a treated surface and pick up a sufficient dose, meaning control continues after we’ve left the property.

That’s also one of the biggest advantages of using a good residual insecticide — once dry, it remains active on treated surfaces, continuing to target bed bugs that emerge from hidden harbourages or hatch following the initial treatment.

🔥 Steam = immediate population reduction & egg destruction

🧪 Residual insecticide = continued protection after treatment

By combining the two methods, we get the best of both worlds: an immediate knockdown of a large proportion of the infestation, followed by residual control for those bed bugs we simply cannot physically reach.

📌 PLEASE NOTE: The sticky pad shown in the photo is actually a cockroach monitoring trap. We simply used it during the steam treatment to collect the dead and dying bed bugs as we worked, giving the client a clear visual of just how many had been removed from one bed frame alone. It isn’t being used as a method of bed bug control.

With an infestation this heavy, you can see exactly why our professional steam unit is one of the most valuable tools on the van! 🌪️

Check out where these bedbugs were hiding… right inside the settee cushion zips! 😳🪳

Would you notice if you had bedbugs?

Bedbugs are experts at hiding in tiny seams, folds and zips, often staying completely out of sight during the day.

On this inspection, we opened up the settee cushions and found eggs, nymphs and adult bedbugs concealed along the zips.

By the time you’re regularly seeing bedbugs out in the open, the infestation may already be well established.

🔍 Think you might have bedbugs? Get them checked early.

🐀 WATCH HOW CAUTIOUS THIS RAT IS…

Rats are naturally suspicious of anything new in their environment, and this footage is a perfect example of why successful trapping sometimes requires patience.

Some rats can even be spooked by the infrared (IR) switching on when our motion cameras activate, so we constantly review footage and, where necessary disable the IR and simply log in remotely to check the trap zone.

🎥 Over two nights, we watched this rat slowly build confidence.

At first, it stays right on the edge of the area, stopping sniffing and assessing its surroundings. Each visit it ventures slightly further, gradually deciding that the area is safe.

Eventually, that caution drops just enough…

And the trap is triggered. 🎯

This is exactly why we don’t just throw traps down and hope for the best.

Understanding rat behaviour, positioning equipment correctly and adapting the setup based on what we’re seeing can make all the difference.

🌪️ ANOTHER YEAR OF TORNADO — WHAT A JOURNEY IT’S BEEN 🌪️

This week marks another anniversary for Tornado Pest Control, and it’s made me stop and think about just how far we’ve come.

Before Tornado, I spent over 18 years at IKEA.

I started as a Team Leader, progressed to Shift Manager and eventually became Warehouse Manager. Those 18+ years gave me far more than just a career, they gave me the foundations, experience and most importantly, the belief in myself that one day I could build something of my own.

Then in 2017 Tornado was born 🌪️

There was no big launch or massive investment. I built it slowly alongside my full-time job, working evenings, weekends and whatever spare hours I could find.

In August 2019, we took the next step, moving from sole trader to Tornado Pest Control Limited, preparing the business for what I hoped the future might bring.

Then came January 2020.

Probably the biggest decision of my career.

After more than 18 years at IKEA, I handed in my notice, walked away from the security of the career I’d known for most of my adult life and stepped into the unknown.

Flying solo.

No guarantees and no idea exactly where it would take me, just a belief that I could make Tornado work.

Fast-forward to August 2026 and Tornado now has three technicians, with another new van on order as we continue to grow. 💚🌪️

It certainly hasn’t been easy.

Other than long weekends and the occasional single day away on the bike, we haven’t had a proper break since June 2025.

That’s one of the biggest reasons we’ve taken the next step and added another technician.

Of course we want Tornado to continue growing, but I also want us to start getting some of our time back and actually enjoying what we’ve spent all these years building.

💚 And I couldn’t write this without recognising the people who’ve been beside me.

A massive thank you to Louise, who has been a huge support, particularly with our commercial sites and everything that goes on behind the scenes as Tornado has grown.

And then there’s Donna. 💖

I genuinely don’t know where she gets her energy from, she’s an absolute machine.

Tornado might not officially be her business, but you would never know it from the time, effort and dedication she puts into it.

There have been many nights where I’ve still been sat at the computer finishing reports at 1am, and Donna has been right there beside me finishing hers.

She’s put the hours in, dealt with the difficult days, celebrated the good ones and backed both me and Tornado every step of the way.

So although my name might say Company Director, what we’ve built certainly hasn’t been built by me alone.

The last 12 months have also changed my outlook personally.

I’ve pretty much removed myself from the hangovers and partying and put 100% of my focus into my goals, my family and Tornado.

Last weekend’s lads’ day/night reminded me exactly why. 😂 It made me even more focused on what I want for myself, my family and the business.

After the stag do, I think I’m officially retiring from the big hangovers! 😂💪🏻

There’s plenty to look forward to as well.

In November 2026, Donna and I finally get married 💖 and then in January 2027 we’ll be heading off on our honeymoon, hopefully enjoying some of that time back we’ve worked so hard for.

If the last nine years of building Tornado have taught me anything, it’s this:

Focus on the things that actually matter.

Your family.
Your health.
Your happiness.
Your personal goals.
Your business goals.

Surround yourself with good people, keep moving forward and don’t get distracted by things that don’t take you where you want to go.

And most importantly, don’t become so focused on building something that you forget to stop occasionally and enjoy what you’ve built.

From working evenings and weekends around a full-time job in 2017, to taking that terrifying leap in 2020, to looking around today at our team, vans, customers and the business we’ve created…

I’m incredibly proud of how far Tornado has come.

And we’re nowhere near finished yet. 🌪️💚

Happy Anniversary, Tornado Pest Control. 🌪️

Here’s to the next chapter. 💪🏻

🌪️ TEAM TORNADO RECRUITMENT UPDATE 🌪️

Our recruitment process is now entering its final stage!

Firstly, a massive thank you to everyone who applied. We received over 40 applications, which was a fantastic response.

Following the first stage of filtering applications against the qualifications and experience required for the role, we moved on to telephone interviews.

We’re pleased to say that 8 candidates have now made it through to the final stage and will be invited to a face-to-face interview with Mark & Donna during the last week of August.

👏 Good luck to everyone who has made it through!

We’re genuinely excited to get this position locked and loaded and welcome another technician to Team Tornado.

The last few months have been some of the busiest we’ve ever experienced, alongside securing new contracts and continuing to grow our domestic and commercial customer base.

It definitely feels like the right time for Team Tornado to take the next step and add another technician to the team. 🌪️💚

Exciting times ahead!

🌪️ ANOTHER ROOT CAUSE FOUND BELOW GROUND! 🐀📹

Today Mark completed a CCTV drain inspection after a detailed external inspection found zero obvious rat ingress points above ground.

Once the camera went underground, the problem quickly became clear 👀

📹 Three significant drainage defects were identified:

🔹 One broken/collapsed pipe beneath the extension

🔹 A second broken/collapsed pipe beneath the decking

🔹 We also discovered a redundant drainage line within the inspection chamber inside the extension

The redundant line has now been professionally capped off, removing one potential route into the property, and we’ve provided recommendations for the remaining drainage repairs.

This is exactly why we focus on finding the root cause rather than simply putting bait down and hoping for the best.

If rats are entering through damaged drainage, treatment alone will never provide a permanent solution. 🐀🚫

⚠️ WARNING – GRAPHIC CONTENT / PEST CONTROL REALITY ⚠️

We don’t usually share images of dead animals on our business page, but we felt this one was worth sharing for awareness and education.

Donna attended a property today to carry out a routine trap check. When she removed the kitchen plinth, she was met with something we very rarely actually witness…

🐀 An adult rat was actively eating a juvenile rat that had been caught in one of our traps.

As pest controllers, we unfortunately see the evidence of partially eaten rodents caught on traps on a daily basis, but it’s extremely rare to actually catch another rat in the act of doing it.

Rats are opportunistic omnivores and cannibalism is a recognised behaviour. A dead or vulnerable rat can become an easy source of protein and calories, particularly where food is limited or there is competition within a population.

What made this encounter even more remarkable was that the adult rat showed virtually no fear of Donna.

Even after the plinth was removed and it was suddenly exposed at extremely close range, rather than immediately fleeing, it remained focused on feeding.

It’s a fascinating, although certainly not pleasant example of just how adaptable and opportunistic rats can be.

It also highlights why professional rodent control goes far beyond simply putting a few traps or some bait down.

Understanding behaviour, locating harbourage and access points, removing food sources and ultimately identifying the root cause are all essential.

Sometimes what’s happening unseen behind kitchen units and inside voids is very different to what you might expect! 🐀

‼️HIGH-LEVEL WASP NEST TREATMENT ‼️

We’ve just taken this video of a high-level wasp nest entry point to make sure our treatment is being applied exactly where it needs to be. 🎯

Anything above gutter height requires the correct access equipment whether that’s ladders or our inspection camera.

We don’t believe in simply blasting from ground level and hoping for the best 🫣

Taking the extra time to locate and inspect the actual entry point gives the treatment the best chance of being effective first time.

Check the video out… they definitely know Team Tornado has arrived! 😂🐝🌪️
