This was my first attempt at carving stone. I found a piece of soft chalk on the beach that already had two natural holes running through it, and as soon as I picked it up I couldn't stop seeing a skull hidden inside.
Using a combination of whittling knives and a Dremel, I spent around two days gradually carving away the stone until this emerged.
Chalk is surprisingly enjoyable to carve if you've never tried it, although it creates a lot of fine dust, so I'd definitely recommend wearing a mask.
I wish I'd taken a photo before I started, because the original stone had a completely different shape. That's a lesson I'll remember for future projects.
I'm still very much a beginner when it comes to stone carving, but I'm pleased with how my first attempt turned out.

The Green Man.

This piece started life as a simple mask, which I sculpted over with clay before painting and sealing it in resin to become an outdoor wall hanging.
It was inspired by a Green Man decoration my mum had in her garden. It used to creep me out when I was younger, but now I seem to see the Green Man everywhere I walk through the woods. Even as autumn arrives and the leaves begin to die back, his green face still peers through them.
This was one of my favourite pieces from last year.

Well... here we go.

Welcome to Clancy Creates.

This is a place where I'll be sharing the things I love making. Woodcarvings, paintings, drawings, poetry, music, masks, wands, and whatever other strange ideas happen to find their way into my hands.

Some of what you'll see is brand new. Some of it has been sitting in sketchbooks, folders, or on shelves for years, just waiting to be shared.

I'm not a professionally trained artist. I simply love creating, and I thought it was finally time to put it all in one place.

If something I make inspires you, makes you smile, or simply catches your attention, then I'm glad you're here.
