We’ve recently been along to Rainbows End Yurts at Dornoch Caravan & Camping Site to carry out PAT Testing on all electrical appliances — making sure everything is safe, tested, and ready for this year’s visitors.

It’s always great to work somewhere a little different, and these yurts really are something special 🌿

This week’s job takes us deep into the character and quirks of an old stone cottage out towards Invershin.

Working in a property like this is never straightforward — centuries-old walls, hidden voids, and wiring that’s often seen far better days. Every corner has its own surprise, from cables tucked behind stonework to circuits that have been “creatively” added over the years.

But that’s the beauty of it. Bringing modern, safe, reliable electrics into a home with this much history is a challenge we love. It’s all about respecting the building while giving it the upgrade it deserves.

🔌⚡ 3 Signs Your Socket Might Need Replacing

Keeping your home safe doesn’t always mean big jobs — sometimes it’s the small things that matter most!

Here are the top signs to look out for 👇

1️⃣ Loose or Wobbly Socket

If the socket moves when you plug something in, or the plug doesn’t sit firmly, it could mean worn internal parts. This can lead to overheating — best to get it checked.

2️⃣ Discolouration or Burning Smell

Brown marks, melting, crackling noises or heat coming from the socket are warning signs. This usually means arcing or overheating and needs attention asap.

3️⃣ It’s Intermittent or Not Working
