Away from the nursery this morning on Cowhill Estate at an Integrating Trees event. Great to see our trees growing well (you might need to zoom in to see them clearly). The Estate Forester, Sam Boley reported the trees had a 99% survival. A combination of good trees and good planting techniques and good deer control.

Sycamore isn't the best selling of our trees, but this year we have permission to collect seed from one of the largest sycamores in the country located with Buccleuch Estate's Drumlanrig Castle & Country Estate . It will have seen a few changes in its 300+ years!

I don't think I will have a long walk for alder cones this year. These are in a small planting next to our driveway. They are trees I grew from seed sown in 2021! Rowan already being taken by birds so better get that soon before it all disappears.

Now that the air is a bit fresher, I can get the anchors dug in for the next polytunnel. 20x9m this time, so once they are in, it should fly up, just as long as I can get a day without wind to get the cover on.

Something a bit different today. This is my first year trying to grow Sequoia giganteum, giant Sequoia. They say that from small things, large things grow (or something like that). At no more than about 60mm from this spring's sowing, they have some way to go before anyone would say they were even large, never mind gigantic!

That's the Scots pine finally pricked out - all 9500. Now only got willows, aspen, some rowan and about 10-15,000 various spruce to prick out. Hopefully, I might get them all done by the end of the month!

30.7 degrees before 9am. I think it's going to be warm in the polytunnel. Might get above the highest temperature the other day of 45.5 degrees. My highest recorded temperature in the end of the polytunnel was 54 degrees (and it was noticeabley hotter than that in the middle!)

Even though the heatwave across most of the country has subsided, it is still getting a little warm in the polytunnel! Highest temperature the other day was the top figure and the middle on was at about 7-8am. Still a few early starts needed

Here at Beechgrove Trees, we focus on mainly native trees, but this year we are doing a few non natives, like this monkey puzzle. After a couple of months of not really doing much, they have poked out so hopefully should make good trees in the not too distant future
