A little games update:

The Yu-Gi-Oh competition is taking place in floor 5 during the
day.

Entry price is £3.50 and using the Advanced Banned list tournament
rules.

Also in floor 5 we are participating in International Tabletop Day. The Tabletop Day events are FREE and anyone can come along
and join in!

These games are all being run by the lovely people from Highlander Games in Dundee.

DEECON PRIZE-DRAWS:

The big day's homing in on us, DeeConners! One more week before the 5th of April strikes.

One of DeeCon's most celebrated and anticipated parts of the event is the mighty and unforgettable Aftershow Party that tops the day off, so we recommend you get your tickets early while you still can!
We of the DeeCon Team are opening our planned BIG Prize-Draws for the final week leading up to the opening of the event. Between now and the 4th of April, anybody who purchases a ticket online will be automatically entered into our Prize-Draw ~ (and everyone who has purchased a ticket so far will also be entered).

But it doesn't stop there! There is a separate Prize-Draw for anyone who purchases a DeeCon T-Shirt between now and the 4th of April! Same rules apply ~ if you have purchased one already, your name is in there - you're sorted!

The Prizes and Winners of the T-Shirts Prize-Draw will be announced at the end of the Raffle on the day as a separate batch of prizes, and the Prizes and Winners of the Aftershow Tickets Prize-Draw will be revealed at Midnight in Floor 5, (you will need a ticket to get in - Obviously). In order to keep the incentive, we are keeping the prizes anonymous ~ but trust us on this one; they are separate from the Raffle because they are special!

And just to top it off, we will be offering a 3rd, 2nd and 1st place of EACH Prize-Draw ~ so as to expand the opportunity of going home with something!

The under-18s will be able to enter the T-Shirts competition but sadly you will not be able to enter the Aftershow party prize-draw as that part of the event is for 18-and-overs only. Also remember that your name will NOT be entered into these Prize-Draws if you purchase your ticket or T-Shirt ON THE DAY.

Big News, DeeConners!

Portfolio Reviews are now open for booking! This year DeeCon is offering the opportunity for aspiring artists to show up to 20 pieces of their own selected work to professional artists from different corners of the industry ~ as well as staff from the DJCAD itself.

This is a wonderful opportunity to get some constructive, friendly feedback for your work ~ along with helpful advice and valuable insight on the industry.

Sessions with these artists last up to 10 minutes and it DOES NOT MATTER AT ALL how 'good' or 'bad' you think your work is, they are only there to be helpful to you and, at the very least, have a nice conversation about what art you are interested in and what you would like to know. This is an opportunity designed for your benefit as an artist and what you wish to use it for. If you were out of luck for booking a table at the Artists Alley, or if you can get someone to cover for your table for 10 minutes, this is a great perk to take full advantage of.

Sessions are free with no-charge whatsoever. You can turn up with work on the day, but if you want to secure a place and make sure you get seen to then we advise you book a time that is good for you.

Simply email [email protected] specifying a specific time or range of time (i.e. 2pm - 3pm) in which you would like to have arrange a session with an artist, and we will arrange you the right time for you so long as it has not already been booked.
You can also specify your area of interest in your email, (i.e. 'Animation') so we can try and pair you up with the correct artist for you. You can say anything from 'comics' to 'fine-art' and we will do our best to pair you up appropriately.
there will be 3 artists present throughout 1pm - 6pm, rotationally, of the convention, so as to make sure everybody can be seen. We will put the names out there soon, so stay-tuned for the next post! But for now, book your places and get in there fast!

Pokemon X and Y UPDATE

An update from our game tournament organisers!

Batlles will be 1v1 double battles and the tournament will be single elimination.

Before the battle, players will see a preview of the opponent's team of 6 and select 4 of their own 6 to take into battle.

Teams must be composed of only Pokémon in the Central, Coastal or Mountain Kalos Pokédex (With the exceptions of Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde and Mewtwo)

Pokémon must be "Kalos Native", meaning born or captured in X or Y. This is indicated by a blue pentagon on the Pokémon summary screen.

More exciting gaming news everyone!

We're happy to announce that DeeCon is participating in International Tabletop Day.

Courtesy of our friends at Highlander Games, part of the top floor of the union will be dedicated to running games from the tabletop pack : Battlestar Galactica, Small World, Ticket to Ride and Pandemic.

Not only that, Highlander will also be running their annual Yu Gi Oh tournament as well!

Hi Guys,

We're adding more guest speakers to the list! Janine Van Moosel is a freelance portrait and comic book artist who will be speaking at the event about finding ways to make your passions work for you as a freelancer and will also generously be lending her time to do portfolio reviews!

Janine will also have a table at the event promoting her new comic City of Lost Souls, for which she provides the artwork to Creator and singer from "The Black Lights" James McCulloch scripts'.
