RDA Architects are delighted to see Blackadders Solicitors settling into their new Dundee office at Meadowside, its been a great experience working alongside Blackadders’s and DC Thomson with the internal fit out and refurbishment works to the Courier Building. Yet another fantastic commitment by both companies to continually invest in the local economy while providing high quality commercial office space which not only provides a fantastic modern working environment for staff but retains important employee footfall in the heart of Dundee City Centre to support local business.
The works involved ground floor subdivision to create a dedicated entrance and reception area for Blackadder’s while incorporating new enclosed meeting rooms, reception desk, waiting area and coffee stop, Blackadder's will also occupy the entire Level 1 floorplate providing in excess of 120 desks, breakout areas and meeting rooms.
Its been great back working in the Courier Building, one of Dundee's most iconic and finest Listed buildings.

Works progressing well with CHAP Group at Barry Buddon Cadet Training Centre for the large multifunctional extension for the Highland Reserve Forces and Cadets Association. The extension will provide a much needed expansion to the under scaled cadet Mess Hall while also incorporating moveable partitions to subdivide the large extension creating flexible independent Classrooms and Cadet breakout areas to effectively alleviate current accommodation constraints and to efficiently delivery the Army Proficiency Certificate Syllabus for Angus and Dundee Battalion ACF. Works also include full refurbishment of the Commercial Kitchen facilities along with major refurbishment and upgrade works to the Officer Dining Room and Breakout Rooms.

Site visit to inspect the ongoing progress of the extensive refurbishment work at the fantastic Category A Listed Powrie Castle located in Dundee. The recently installed solid oak timber framed windows and shutters are a great piece of craftmanship. Strip out works are well underway internally to remove non original finishes while exposing some unique Scots Baronial style detailing. Watch this space as the works progress.

Great article by Highland Reserve Forces and Cadets Association on the recently complete refurbishment works at Unity Hall for the 775 Burntisland Squadron RAFAC Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

Successful Client Handover with the Highland Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for the extensive refurbishment works at the Burntisland Cadet Training Centre for the 775 Squadron Air Training Cadets. Works included a full internal refurbishment with installation of new timber sash & case windows, upgrades to thermal insulation, electrics, data facilities along with external making good works, decoration and new external courtyard.. The Unity Hall building located directly within the Burntisland conservation area on Links Place has an abundance of history dating back to the 1800s previously serving as a local police station with 4 cells, a local court room along with the adjacent police boarding house. Great to see investment into a unique building preserving its use as an efficient modern cadet centre providing a fantastic service to local cadets.

Great Start to the week with Phase 1 Listed Building and Warrant Approval received for the extensive internal refurbishment works at the fantastic Category A Listed Powrie Castle located in Dundee.
Phase 2 of the project involves substantial landscaping works with the incorporation of an external structure constructed in a solid oak timber frame with reclaimed stone detailing providing an external living space which will include a reclaimed stone fireplace, wood burning hot tub and external kitchen / dining facilities.

Building Warrant now lodged with Fife Council for the proposed new build development of 4 terraced houses located at Westpark Road, Wormit, Fife.
The full height glazing to the balcony and upper floor will capture some unbeatable views across the River Tay.

Successfully handover of our Phase 1 works at Muirhead Medical Centre - Angus forming a new reception / waiting area. Phase 2 works to create an additional 2 consultation rooms commences on site next week.

RDA Architects have now received Full Planning and Building Warrant approval for this garage conversion incorporating a new build extension to the rear located in Dalgety Bay. The project delivers an open plan kitchen / family dining area capitalising on the garden views across the Fourth Estuary while introducing expansive glazing, rooflights and exposed timber roof joists creating a bright contemporary interior. The project is due to be tendered in the coming weeks.

Great to see the Courier covering the listing of a home located at Dundee’s waterfront along the iconic Chandlers Lane which is one of the oldest and most intact historic streets within the local Dundee area. RDA Architects undertook the re-development and conversion of the former Panmure Shipyard and harbour workshops which date back to 1837. Famous for the construction of the RRS Discovery the former Panmure Shipyard and the remains of the Caithness Stone Category ‘A’ Listed Slipway believed to be that which the Discovery was built on, along with the Category ‘A’ listed Harbour Workshops, Category ‘A’ listed fire damaged Tannery, and Category ‘B’ Listed Hacklemakers buildings formed the focal point to establish and deliver a commercially viable residential waterfront development which also incorporated the adjacent new build residential flats. RDA Architects approach was to sensitively convert, retain, and preserve the original architectural features with sympathetic integration into the design. The project won a Dundee Institute of Architects Award for design and a Dundee Civic Trust Award for its contribution to the townscape of Dundee. Site wide external design work focussed on creating and retaining the historic cobbled streets through the site and along Chandler Lane while also incorporating the remains of the historic slip way as an external public space.
Chandlers Lane has become somewhat of an Instragram hotspot while also being used as a backdrop for a number of television dramas.
