A lot of new builds are getting solar bolted on purely to hit the developers quota, a handful of panels and no battery, which ticks the compliance box but barely touches the bills.

This Dunfermline homeowner went the other way, a smaller array but a big double battery and an EV charger, built around their own usage and tariff rather than the bare minimum.

That's the gap between a system installed to satisfy a regulation and one installed to actually save money.

If you're in a new build and solar came with the house, ask whether battery storage can still be added, because that's usually where the real savings were left on the table.

Something people don't think about when planning for Solar is what happens under the panels once they're on

Pigeons love it under there - it's warm, it's sheltered, and once they're nesting you've got droppings on your roof, damage to your wiring, and a mess that's a nightmare to sort out once the panels are isntalled.

We aways recommend bird mesh goes on every install we do,

It's a lot easier to fit it now than to deal with what happens when you don't.

A proper landmark day for us. We were the team who installed the solar and battery on Scotland's first ever Zero Bills home, right here in Dundee.
