Why do we recommend every two weeks cut the grass?

"Scalping" a lawn—mowing off more than one-third of the grass’s height—is the number-one lawn-care mistake that home owners make. Doing this sends grass into physiological shock, which leaves the lawn prone to invasion by weeds and less able to cope with drought and other environmental stresses.

The more often you mow—and the less grass you remove with each mowing—the thicker and healthier your lawn is likely to become.

We can't wait the real warm spring but until then here's a few words about the early spring snowing and cold weather. Depending on the species of lawn grass you are growing, If you want to see a fresh, green, healthy-looking lawn in the spring, don’t allow anyone to walk on the grass when it is covered with frost snow or ice. This crushes grass blades and causes damage to blades – similar to going over your yard with a two-ton cement roller. lawn grass will either go into dormancy when temperatures drop, or slow its growth rate considerably. After winter months it's important to no stress the lawn remove no more than one-third of the total green blade length in any one mowing session to reduce the harsh cold weather stress on the grass plants. Shorten long overgrown blades with successive weekly mowing sessions to reduce the blade length gradually. Obviously when mowing in the cold weather or early spring it is also important to avoid newly emerging bulbs before they have flowered will spoil a spring display.
