Nearly 8 years my old Rothenberger torch lasted, feels like a milestone having to get a new one 😢

Doubt it’ll improve my soldering skills any but here’s hoping!

Sorry but I’m not ready to get on the press parade just yet. I know they have their uses and sometimes easier than soldering but nobody in the industry is going to tell me that a press fitting is more reliable than one that has been soldered. This is just my opinion but with press tools at the end of the day you are relying on an o-ring.

Curious what other people’s thoughts on this?

Time to get rid of these nuisance manifolds and get it piped properly! Don’t get me wrong, these were spot on back in the day but the flow through them isn’t great and they do tend to get blocked.

This time it was no hot water at all. Boiler is a bit past it’s best but changed over the diverter valve to give them full use of it just now and also advised them to start saving for a replacement. Not everybody has the money straight away to just change a boiler so I do what I can when it’s possible

A wee test to determine if the plate is blocked or if there is another blockage in the main hex or the surrounding pipework.

In this case the DHW NTC would only read 49 but when switched to the primary NTC it was up in the 90s showing me that there is a quite severe restriction in the boiler somewhere. 9/10 it is the plate that is blocked.

If this post can help anyone just starting out etc then it was worth showing.

Not my favourite boiler but that is a handy feature

This is not always an option but if you find the expansion vessel in your boiler is compromised or undersized you can always add an external one to the system pipework.

You do need a wee space for it to go in but cheaper than internal vessels and this is actually 50% bigger than the boilers internal one, from 8L to 12L.

Added a full bore isolator so any further works or maintenance are nice and easy
