Well… this hallway turned into a bit of a nightmare!
The hallway had already been plastered twice by two different plasterers, and unfortunately neither job was up to standard. The customer had already paid around £1,000 for the plastering.
Yesterday I spent hours sanding down all the lumps and bumps to get the walls as smooth as possible before decorating. I then applied a thin mist coat of matt emulsion.
As the paint started to dry, sections of the plaster began lifting clean off the wall—around a foot square at first. I removed everything that was loose, hoping to find solid plaster underneath.
Back today… there was virtually no adhesion to the wall. At that point there was only one option: remove all the failed plaster back to a sound surface.
The video says it all.
It’s frustrating for the customer, but sometimes the biggest part of decorating is putting right someone else’s work. I’d rather be honest, explain the problem properly, and fix it the right way than cover it up and have it fail later.
Quality preparation is everything.
P.M. Decor – doing the job properly, even when it’s not the news anyone wants to hear.
