MGL Demolition has commenced the structural demolition of Spencerbeck House, a former residential tower block in Middlesbrough.

The team is using a high-reach excavator to bring down the 26m structure, a method selected for its safety and efficiency compared with a machine-operated floor-by-floor approach.

Works are being carried out in a controlled sequence, with demolition starting at roof level before progressing through defined sections of the building on a bay-by-bay basis.

Once demolition is complete, the site will be repurposed for community use.

MGL Group are enjoying a tasty start to the bank holiday weekend 🥓

Bacon sandwiches, hot drinks and plenty of smiles are being served up this morning at our Newburn facility, bringing pre-bank holiday cheer and a chance to catch up as a team on what is set to be a drizzly day.

The team is tucking into some well-earned scran as a thank you for all the hard work they put in day in, day out. It's a small gesture to recognise the people who help make MGL Group what it is.

MGL Demolition has successfully delivered major asbestos removal works at the Golden Eagle Hotel in Thornaby.

The project saw the removal of 470 tonnes of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs), making it one of the most technically challenging asbestos remediation projects undertaken in the North East.

Despite facing significant challenges throughout, the successful completion of the asbestos removal phase demonstrates MGL Demolition's expertise in delivering complex and highly regulated projects safely and efficiently.

The team has now moved on to the demolition phase, with work already underway to bring the building down.

MGL Group has replaced a defunct defibrillator in the village of Middleton Tyas, just over a mile away from our asphalt plant and quarry in Barton.

Dave Whitehouse was on hand to officially unveil the defibrillator alongside Middleton Tyas Parish Clerk Christine Jones and representatives from the Red Sky Foundation.

This most recent installation continues our long-standing relationship with the Red Sky Foundation, with further units planned for installation in Blyth area later this year.

This latest installation reflects MGL Group's ongoing commitment to supporting the communities around our sites. By helping to ensure life-saving equipment is available in Middleton Tyas, we are contributing to a safer, healthier and more resilient local community.

Ahead of VJ Day, MGL Earthworks was proud to support a special addition to the Len Gibson memorial in South Shields. A 10-yard stretch of railway track, supplied by Nexus, has been added and is due to be unveiled at an opening ceremony tomorrow.

The railway track was added to commemorate those who lost their lives building the notorious “Death Railway” between Thailand and Myanmar, built by the Japanese Empire, with Len himself among the POWs forced to work on the railway.

MGL Group Founder Alan Davison caught up with long-time friend Brian Burnie, founder of Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care and the man behind this remarkable memorial, to view the completed installation.

We're proud to have played a small part in a project that helps preserve an important piece of local and international history.

We're proud to have supported Sherburn Primary School as it achieved the prestigious Platinum Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) Award.

Earlier this year, we provided a donation that enabled the school to redevelop its mud kitchen, helping to support its ambitions for outdoor play and learning.

The brand-new kitchen, alongside a sandpit donated by Taylor Wimpey, played a part in helping the school achieve this significant milestone. The Platinum Award reflects the school's commitment to providing high-quality outdoor experiences for its pupils and its determination to continually enhance its OPAL provision.

Congratulations to everyone at Sherburn Primary School on this fantastic and well-deserved achievement.

🚛 Proud to have supported the Berwickshire Charity Truck Run 2026 🚛

MGL Group sponsored the sixth edition of the annual Berwickshire Charity Truck Run, which raises money for Borders General Hospital.

Last Saturday, an MGL Group truck and van joined more than 100 vehicles in Duns Town Square, setting off on an 89-mile route through the Scottish Borders.

The event not only showcases the very best of the transport and haulage industry but also brings together people from across the United Kingdom to raise funds for a worthwhile cause.

MGL Group was delighted to support an event that has raised more than £200,000 since its inception, making a real difference to healthcare services in the region.

A huge well done to the organisers, volunteers and drivers who made this year's event another fantastic success.
