About Us

DT Bus is a well-established, family-run bus and coach repair service in County Durham and assists operators with repair, maintenance and Auto electrics of their fleets. We pride ourselves on delivering excellent service to our customers. We are now looking for a skilled, qualified, and reliable PSV Inspection & MoT Technician to join our busy workshop team and help keep fleets moving.

Role Overview

As our PSV Inspection & MoT Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out full safety inspections, MoT preparation, maintenance, repairs, and fault diagnosis on a vast array of passenger service vehicles (PSVs) – including single-deck, double-deck, and midi buses. You will ensure all work meets legal and customer standards, manufacturer guidelines, and our own high safety and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

✅ Carry out statutory PSV inspections, annual MoT preparation and presentation, and routine safety checks
✅ Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance
✅ Diagnose and fix faults with engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, and basic electrical systems
✅ Complete accurate job cards, inspection reports, and maintenance records
✅ Ensure all work complies with DVSA regulations, health & safety laws, and company policies
✅ Advise on required parts, service schedules, and fleet improvements
✅ Support other workshop team members and help maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment

What We’re Looking for

Essential:

✅ IRTEC accreditation (we can arrange if you don’t already have this)
✅ Proven experience as a commercial vehicle / PSV technician – minimum 3 years’ experience
✅ Strong knowledge of PSV systems: engines, hydraulics, electrics, brakes, and suspension
✅ Ability to work independently and as part of a team
✅ High attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality
✅ Full UK driving licence (Category D advantageous but not essential)

Desirable:

✅ City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (Commercial / PSV)
✅ Experience with diagnostic equipment (Texa, Delphi, Jaltest, etc.)
✅ Knowledge of tachograph, speed limiter, and digital systems
✅ Experience working with bus/coach fleets

We were delighted to welcome another young person for a work experience placement this week, and it turned out to be a truly positive and rewarding time for everyone involved. Matthew joined us to gain a first-hand insight into the operations and daily work at DT Bus, and from the very first day, he threw himself into every task and opportunity with enthusiasm and curiosity.

Throughout his time here, he showed a genuine interest in how everything runs, asking thoughtful questions, observing our teams at work, and getting involved wherever he could. It was clear he thoroughly enjoyed his placement, making the most of every moment to learn and understand more about our industry and the work we do.

We are currently seeking a meticulous and quality-driven Wiring Harness Manufacturing Operator to join our production team.

The Role
This role is for an an initial 6 months and is subject to customer contracts.
As a Wiring Harness Operator, you will play a crucial role in building complex electrical assemblies from engineering drawings and schematics. This role requires excellent dexterity, patience, and a sharp eye for detail.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

Assembly: Routing, plugging, and tying wires on assembly boards according to customer schematic drawings and blueprints.

Termination: Cutting, stripping, crimping, and soldering wires using both manual hand tools and automated machinery.

Quality Control: Checking completed harnesses for defects, continuity testing, and ensuring all assemblies meet internal quality standards.

Component Testing: Applying heat-shrink tubing, braiding, and protective sleeving onto wire bundles.

Compliance: Maintaining a clean and organised workstation and adhering to all health and safety guidelines.

About You
We are looking for someone who takes pride in manual dexterity and precision. Experience in electrical assembly is not required as we are willing to train candidates who possess the right attitude and a steady hand.

What we are looking for:

Experience: Previous experience in electrical assembly, soldering, crimping, or manufacturing is preferred but not essential.

Skills: Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for working with small components and colour-coded wires.

Technical Ability: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions (training provided).

Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, a methodical approach to work, and the ability to maintain concentration on repetitive tasks.

Teamwork: A positive attitude and the ability to work well within a production line team.

The Role
As our Admin Clerk, you will be the face and voice of the garage. You’ll handle the day-to-day paperwork, chat with customers, and support our mechanics by ensuring the office stays organised.

Your daily tasks will include:

Customer Service: Answering the phone, replying to emails, greeting customers, and booking vehicles in for MOTs, services, and repairs.

Invoicing & Payments: Processing customer payments, creating invoices, and chasing outstanding balances.

Parts & Ordering: Assisting the Workshop Manager by ordering parts from suppliers and checking off deliveries and stock.

Data Entry: Updating our garage management system with accurate customer and vehicle details.

General Admin: Filing, scanning, keeping the office area tidy, and sorting incoming/outgoing mail.

About You
You don’t need to be a mechanic to work here, but a background or interest in the automotive industry is a nice bonus! Mostly, we are looking for someone who is organised, sharp, and great with people.

What we are looking for:

Experience: Previous experience in an administrative or customer-facing role (garage or dealership experience is a huge plus, but not essential).

Skills: Good computer skills (MS Office, emails, and ability to learn our garage software).

Attributes: A friendly, confident phone manner and the ability to multitask when the garage gets busy.

Reliability: Strong organisational skills with great attention to detail.
