The HSE is currently consulting on major proposed changes to lead regulations and monitoring requirements.

The proposals risk applying a blanket industrial approach without sufficient consideration for small specialist heritage crafts, many of which are already under pressure.

If you are involved in heritage crafts where lead remains an essential traditional material, including organ building, stained glass, roofing, conservation or restoration work, it is important that your voice is heard. The consultation also welcomes responses from anyone.

Whilst it isn’t a five minute survey, we encourage as many who are able, to reply to the consultation questions.

The consultation closes on 24 May 2026.

The summer organ recitals at York Minster are fast approaching, with six acclaimed musicians taking centre stage in one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals.

The series will be opened by Jonathan Scott, with other recitals performed by Caroline Robinson, Ian Tracey and Rachel Mahon, alongside the Minster musicians Robert Sharpe and Benjamin Morris.

The recitals will take place on Thursday evenings from 16 July to 20 August, beginning at 7pm.

Ahead of Jonathan Scott's recital on Thursday 16 July at 7pm, Jonathan and Tom visited the Minster to set up.

Check out the video below as Jonathan and Tom explore the Minster inside and out and take a tour of the organ.

Today is a busy day for H&H as we celebrate the opening recitals at both Bristol Cathedral and St John’s College, Cambridge.

While we can’t be in two places at once, as the events in both establishments are spread over the weekend, we have staff in Bristol and Cambridge, with some doing Cambridge today, and Bristol tomorrow.

We look forward to seeing some of you at the events.

🎶 Revealing the Future Sound of Wells.

With the Cathedral’s Grand Organ now at Harrison & Harrison’s workshop in Durham, we are pleased to share further details about the rebuild and the vision for its future sound.

Over the next 18 months, the instrument will be carefully renewed, drawing inspiration from Arthur Harrison’s 1910 musical aesthetic while integrating the best of the existing historic pipework. The result will be an organ with greater presence in the Nave and a richer, more orchestral palette of tone.

Each year our staff select a local charity to receive the funds raised through group and individual workshop tours.

Our charity for 2025 was the Northumbria Blood Bikes. Northumbria Blood Bikes is a registered charity established by local volunteers to deliver essential blood and urgent medical supplies, out of hours, between hospitals and other healthcare sites in North East England. They cover a wide area, including, Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

We were pleased to raise £364.67 for this very worthy and local cause. Click the link below to find out more about Northumbria Blood Bikes.

People often think organ building companies are arch rivals. While we do often compete for the same work, we are actually good friends and colleagues. It was therefore lovely to catch up with Andrew Caskie this evening in London and to put the organ world right over a few glasses of port at Gordon’s.
