Sometimes, when you’re caught up in the daily grind of being a self-employed architect—managing deadlines, paperwork, and life’s general chaos—you forget why you push yourself, why you go above and beyond.
This week, I was reminded.
Before: The property was a 3-storey terraced townhouse that felt top-heavy. The ground floor consisted of a small kitchen, a WC, and a cramped dining/living area.
After: By adding a 3m extension and reconfiguring the internal layout, we managed to completely transform the space:
• The small kitchen became a separate playroom/den.
• A compact utility room was added, fully equipped with washing facilities, a sink, extra fridge/freezer space, and storage.
• By relocating the kitchen to the middle of the house, we created an open-plan kitchen and dining area.
• The new rear extension now serves as a bright and spacious living area.
• Elongated hall way with an adequate size Understairs useable storage.
Features: The design included a vaulted pitched ceiling, skylights, Aluminium Sliding doors, and a sleek modern oriel window.
This project wasn’t about ego or flashy design—it was about need. Most of my work is driven by creating functional, meaningful spaces for people to live their lives. It’s not about chasing grand designs but delivering real impact.
The heartfelt “thank you” I received reminded me exactly why I do what I do.
What about you? What moments remind you why you love what you do?
