Hottest May day on record? Good excuse to get wet while working.

Jack has been released onto the streets of Hastings old town. After a day of fun and merry-making he has been stripped of his leaves to release the spirit of summer.

Love the way the dry stone wall has become a wet stone wall! Looks fantastic emerging from the clear waters. This will make a perfect habitat for the local wildlife.

This afternoon I planted up 5 Corten Steel planters.

They look absolutely beautiful already. Here we have Achillea Moonshine and Geranium Rozanne growing amongst the beautiful grass Stipa lessingiana, while evergreen honeysuckle will be trained onto the fence and trellis. Oh and I'll also be popping loads allium bulbs in there for a summer surprise! So excited to revisit these once established.

Corten steel or weathering steel is a type of metal that naturally weathers and forms an attractive protective layer of rust. Once fully 'rusted' this material looks absolutely amazing and really blends in to its surroundings while enhancing the planting. You can see that these ones are starting to turn after only 4 days in the elements.

Lovely little alpine rockery at the top of the garden steps.
I used left over setts from the stone wall to connect this alpine rockery to its surroundings. Saving an extra special one for the front of the rockery. I even managed to match a plant with the fossil! These low growing alpine plants will eventually spread and hug the stones and will send up pretty little flowers in spring and summer.

Even in the back of the truck you can see that this is a winning combination!

Autumn in the woodland garden that I planted a few years ago. The Silver birch is looking beautifully elegant and really showing why it's often described as "the lady of the woods".

I'm looking forward to watching this wildlife pond mature. Next spring will see creeping plants blur the lines between water, stone and soil while the water will be smothered in Frogbit, water lilys and marsh marigold, and of course all of the associated fauna.
