This week we were delighted to go back to the Tyrrell Shed at Goodwood. In January 2024, we undertook the huge task of deconstructing, moving and reconstructing the historic building in its new home of Goodwood Motor Circuit. Today, we were back to help in its conservation by replacing certain sections that had begun to need attention. As with all restoration projects we undertake, this one needs care and craftsmanship to ensure the building lasts for generations to come. For more information on the building and its history head to Goodwood's website.

Spring time is the perfect time to start that much needed renovation your property needs. This project in Hartfield on the edge of the Ashdown Forest needs work on its original window frames and deserves two new doors. Parts of the 100 year old frame have begun to rot and need some attention. We start by thoroughly checking what parts can be saved, followed by carefully cutting out the parts that can’t be and finally we replace the old, rotten wood with, carefully cut, new, solid parts that should last for future generations. We understand that it is sometimes important for custodians of old buildings to not replace the whole frame if unnecessary and sometimes the budget requires repairs over replacement. Our attention to detail and excellent craftsmanship ensures you get a warm, dry house whilst preserving its character and charm.

What a difference a week makes. This extension project is developing rapidly. You can now see the structure of the Mansard roof and the openings for the Velux windows and skylight. Using glass in this way will flood the rooms with light and allow for beautiful views of the surrounding area. Mostly associated with the French baroque period, the Mansard roof maximises usable attic space and allows for greater headroom and more flexible uses. If you like what you see and would like to discuss your own project, get in touch!

Time to revisit this brilliant restoration project in Bolney! You may remember that this oak framed building was in dire need of some love and attention. We have been methodically replacing and reinforcing the old timber frame with fresh new oak to provide some structural integrity and a beautiful finish. Parts of this building date back to the Tudor period and conservation has been a key part of this project. The original brickwork has been cleaned up and, where needed, we have replaced walls to blend with the overall look of the building. The lime render has also been updated and makes the oak frame stand out in the classic style of Tudor oak frames that you will know and love.

There’s nothing quite like a handcrafted oak frame. From country homes to striking modern spaces, our bespoke oak frames are designed, cut, and raised right here in the South East. Built using traditional joinery and the finest oak, every frame is made to last for generations — and to look better with age.

So whether you are planning a new build, extension, or a restoration project and want something with real character, we’d love to help bring it to life.

Oak and glass look beautiful together but, when using older building methods, can cause problems. This is why we use the 'face glazing' system. Rather than setting the glass directly into the oak frame, the glass is mounted to the face of the frame and capped with oak to give the illusion the glass is enclosed within. As wood is a natural product, it can move over time causing water ingestion or can cause the glass to crack, but with the face glazing system, you can avoid issues and cracking as the glass isn't in direct contact. Meaning you can have beautiful, large panes in your oak frame! Get in touch to discuss your new oak frame.
