Any guess what we done yesterday!

A full revamp of a filter system for one of my regulars. After a technical fault with existing setup up it was decided a new system was due.

After 4 hours of un burying the old, digging in new pipes, installing the new filter it is all up and running!

🌿 Walled Planters Given a Much-Needed Tidy-Up!🌿

These walled planters had become overgrown with weeds and unwanted growth, so we gave them a thorough clear-out, removing the weeds and tidying around the established plants and roses.

Sadly, following the passing of one of my clients in Felbridge, their family have asked me to help find a new home for their fish.

There’s a large number of koi and general carp, and they are to go as one complete lot — no picking or choosing individual fish.

We’d like to see them go to someone with a suitable pond, lake or facilities to accommodate them all.

I can help with transportation if needed.

🌿 Wildlife Pond Restoration 🌿

A fantastic transformation on this heavily overgrown pond.

Excess reeds and vegetation were carefully removed to restore a large area of open water, while retaining established marginal planting to preserve the pond’s natural character and provide habitat for wildlife.

The removed vegetation has been left beside the pond temporarily, allowing any aquatic wildlife the opportunity to return to the water before the material is relocated.

Many people love a pond and all the extra life it brings to a garden 🐸🌿

However, a pond isn't to everyone's taste or garden needs, and sometimes people simply don't have the time to maintain one.

So, as well as building and maintaining ponds, I can also decommission them when needed.

This pond was emptied on Saturday, with the liner and underlay removed, leaving a clean, smell-free area and giving the clients time to decide what's going in its place.

☀️ HEATWAVE POND ADVICE! 💦🐟

A couple of ponds had their regular maintenance this morning, before the real heat of the day kicked in! And this lily is still flowering strong! 🌸

How are your ponds coping in this heat?

With these high temperatures, there are a few things worth keeping an eye on:

Keep the water moving
Make sure your pumps are clear and efficiently pumping water through to your filters. Check that outlets and waterfall ends are clear, and make sure any oxygenators are switched on and bubbling away.

Oxygen gets dissolved into the water through surface agitation, so the more movement, the better for your fish and other pond life — especially during hot weather when oxygen levels can drop.

Dropping water levels?
Don't automatically assume you've got a leak! In this heat, it could simply be evaporation. Ponds with waterfalls and other running-water features can lose water more quickly, as can shallower ponds.

Topping up your pond
Under the current restrictions, ponds can be topped up using a hosepipe. However, if your pond and its inhabitants are safe at the current water level, there's no need to top it up unnecessarily.

Keep those pumps flowing, oxygenators bubbling and ponds healthy through the heat! 🌿🐸🐟

☀️ DROUGHT DECLARED IN SUSSEX 💧🌿

Following the Environment Agency’s announcement yesterday, 10 August, Sussex is now officially in drought status.
Our ponds and gardens are really starting to feel the effects of this weather — and, if I’m being truthful, I am too! 🥵☀️
If your pond level is dropping, don’t panic. Evaporation can be substantial in this weather, and aquatic plants will also be using water during the growing season.
🐟 For your pond:
• Keep pumps and aeration running
• Provide shade where possible
• Keep an eye on your fish and water levels
• Only top up when necessary
• Always follow your water supplier’s current restrictions
• If water loss seems excessive, check your pipework and filtration system
🌱 For your garden:
Prioritise pots, new planting and vulnerable plants. Let established lawns go dormant rather than using precious water trying to keep them green — they’ll recover when wetter weather returns.

Is your pond level dropping? 💧

I’ve had a flurry of enquiries recently from customers worried that their pond is leaking.
The first thought is usually “It must be the liner!”

Sometimes it is — but more often than not, it isn’t.

One of the first places I check is the pipework and filtration system. These are constantly carrying water, and over time joints, fittings, jubilee clips and connections can loosen or fail. Even a small drip can result in a surprising amount of water loss.

🌿 Don’t forget your plants either!
During the growing season, a heavily planted pond can use a considerable amount of water.

☀️ And during warm weather, evaporation can make a noticeable difference too — particularly on exposed ponds and those with waterfalls or fountains.

So if your pond level is dropping, don’t automatically assume the liner has failed.
A few simple checks could save you a lot of unnecessary work and expense.
