Hello, Jess here! Update on Ben...
Sorry it's been a while since my last update, it's been a month of waiting on dates for upcoming appointments etc. Ben's last chemotherapy was on the 12th Feb and we found out on Monday it was to be his last one!! Although originally Ben was due to have 6 months of chemo (12 rounds in total) they've cut it short as he is due to start radiotherapy on the 31st March. It is quite a blessing that chemotherapy has now finished as his body was really struggling to tolerate the side effects, and we are now hoping that over the next 5 weeks we can try and build him up ready for the radiotherapy as this will have its own side effects that Ben will have to cope with. Ben is due to go to Oxford on the 16th March to have various scans carried out before treatment starts. This will comprise of 5 doses of radiotherapy over a week and it will be guided by an MRI scan which enables them to really direct it at the tumour.

As Ben has now finished chemo, he was able to have his PICC line out today (Wednesday 25th Feb) which he was over the moon about! Take a look at the photo of Ben holding it. It was 38cm long, and was inserted into his right arm and went across into one of the veins near his heart. The nurse at the IV clinic was shocked when Ben asked to bring it home as a souvenir 😂 (typical Ben).

As always, we are super grateful to everyone for your kind words, love and support, and we can’t thank you all enough. We would also really appreciate it if you could continue to share our Go Fund Me page which you'll find below.

Thank you again, Jess x

Hello everyone, Jess here. Just a little update and a photo. Ben came back home today, he will now be with us until his next treatment. It's a busy week with appointments, scan tomorrow, bloods and oncologist on Tuesday, appointment with a consultant in Oxford on Wednesday and potentially chemo on Thursday depending on outcome of Tuesday/Wednesday. Ben is continuing to put on a brave face but behind the scenes struggling a lot with side effects of the chemotherapy.
He's loved hearing from some of you, so thank you for taking your time to message 🩵 xx

Hello, Jess here. Just an update on Ben...
Ben had an appointment today with his oncologist which Karen and I attended as usual. We had some news today that we weren't expecting which has given us a little bit of hope. Behind the scenes Ben's oncologist has been trying to secure a round of radiotherapy with a specialist hospital in Oxford. This was agreed by the oncologists in Oxford today literally an hour before our appointment. Although this is great news as radiotherapy is more targeted to the tumour, it can only go ahead if there are no changes or new spread when Ben has his next CT scan. This CT scan has been put through as urgent as Ben's oncologist want to know where we are at so we are just waiting for a date. We would be super grateful if everyone could keep their fingers crossed for Ben 🤞🏼
If the scan shows no change, Ben can go ahead with the radiotherapy, this would mean chemo will almost certainly stop once he has completed 6 rounds but this is not a definite it could be sooner. Once stopped it would then be replaced by the radiotherapy which Ben will need to travel to Oxford to undergo. The oncologist was very honest with us that this still isn't a cure for Ben, but he is hopeful that it could help to prolong life, which we are all hopeful for.
Ben will go ahead with his 4th round of chemo on Thursday and spend the week as usual at his mum and dads before returning back home to me and the boys.
As always, thank you to you all for your continued support, messages and donations to our go fund me page.

Update on Ben... Those of you that follow our journey will have read that Ben's last chemotherapy treatment got cancelled by his oncologist due to Ben's body struggling to tolerate it, which luckily resulted in Ben being a bit brighter for Christmas which was lovely. Lots of family time was had between my parents (Julia & Nick) and Ben's parents (Karen & Dave) along with both his brothers, sister in laws and our wonderful twin niece's. We also got together with all of Ben's cousins, aunties, uncles and nan on Boxing Day. Our boys had an absolute blast and loved every second of the Christmas period. Unfortunately Ben wasn't able to go out and about to Christmas events, but our amazing friends and family made a Father Christmas visit possible for us and the boys by coming to visit us at our house (see photos) which meant so much to us all, particularly Ben.
Unfortunately last weekend Ben had to be taken to A&E as he had an extremely high temperature and was in extreme pain which turned out to be a middle ear infection which then caused a perforated ear drum, so a course of antibiotics was needed for that!
We then saw the oncologist on Tuesday to confirm it was ok for Ben to carry on with chemo this week and it was decided that as Ben suffers so terribly with the side effects of his chemotherapy, (which is made up of 4 separate parts) that it would be best to cut one of the drugs out to try and support Ben with his wishes of continuing chemo.

Today's cycle has completely exhausted Ben, so he is now back at Karen & Dave's to get some well needed rest and to be waited on hand and foot, perhaps I should get him a bell to ring when he needs them! 😂

Once again, thank you to you all for your continued support, love and messages ###

Evening everyone, just wanted to post an update on my Benjamin.
If you have been following his journey, you will know that Ben had his second round of chemotherapy a fortnight ago. These first two rounds of chemo have hit Ben hard and he has been really struggling with the side effects that it causes. These include nausea, weight loss, extreme fatigue, mouth ulcers and most bizarrely, really aggressive hiccups (which last continuously for around 4 days) this causes him excruciating pain in his chest preventing him from eating and drinking. We saw his oncologist this afternoon and it has been medically advised for Ben to skip his next round of chemo which was due this Thursday. The oncologist feels that Ben's body needs a rest from chemo and to allow it to recover slightly because of the severe side effects. As annoying as this is for Ben, as he likes to crack on with things, myself (Jess) and Karen & Dave ( Ben's parents) are quite pleased as we feel it will be good for Ben to enjoy his Christmas rather than suffering from the effects of chemo and therefore be able to spend quality time with his family during the festive period especially with his boys Reggie & Hector. All being well Ben's chemo will then resume as planned on the 1st of January for cycle 3.

As always, thank you to everyone who is always sending messages of love and support, this means so much to us all. Please can we ask everyone to continue sharing our go fund me page as well.

Thank you, love Jess x
