I grow plants as a hobby and sell them at very competitive prices, up to 50% cheaper than garden centres. I started about 3 years ago selling mainly through car boot sales and to colleagues.
I grow bee friendly perennials and shrubs, hardy Fuchsias and Roses (old fashioned and scented) and all are outside grown in Old Town, so fully hardy and ready to plant, establish and flourish. There are others, such as dwarf and slow growing conifers to provide both structure and winter colour.
I have nearly 40 years of horticultural knowledge and plantsmanship with the last 25 years being mainly as the Parks and Gardens Manager for Eastbourne Council and during this time achieved success with my team in South East and Britain in Bloom, British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI), being scored as the third highest Council for customer satisfaction in the country as a result of an independant resident survey on parks and open spaces on two occasions and being recognised by DEFRA for our pollinator habitat enhancing schemes with numerous articles about Eastbourne gardens published through the professional trade press. My particular interests are designed schemes focussed on pollinators, sustainable planting, coastal and Mediterranean style, cottage garden, soft fruit and sensory plantings.
I left the Council in 2018 to return to my chosen career, gardening and am working as ‘Gardenscapes by Gareth’ ([email protected]) and will design, build and plant gardens and carry out all maintenance tasks to recognised professional horticultural standards having attained horticultural qualifications through City & Guilds, National Certificate, Royal Horticultural Society and a Diploma in Horticulture awarded at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh.
