First Week of the Year Nearly Complete | Grassmarket, Edinburgh

Our first working week of the year is nearly wrapped up, and the AMF team has been busy progressing a standout project in the iconic Edinburgh Grassmarket.

From Monday, we’ve been on-site providing scaffold access to both the front and rear of The Beehive Inn, working alongside PDS Group Ltd to support upcoming remedial façade and roofing works. The project will run for approximately four weeks, and we’re looking forward to seeing the finished result in such a well-known location.

As always, the scaffold has been erected fully in line with current regulations and best practice, including:

• Fully designed scaffold drawings supplied
• Pull tests completed and results issued to the main contractor
• Scaffold tagged and formally handed over to the client
• Fully netted to prevent debris falling to street level
• Triple handrails installed to the top lift
• Ladder hatches provided to protect workers
• Padding applied to uprights at pedestrian level
• Yellow treads used instead of sole boards to reduce trip risk at street level

Another great example of safe, well-planned access solutions in a busy city-centre environment.

Happy New Year from everyone at AMF Access Services!

The doors are now open for what promises to be another huge year ahead. We have some exciting projects due to commence in 2026, alongside the continued progress of our Newcraighall site.

Reflecting on what’s ahead, Director Alasdair Munro shared:

“Our yard space, which we moved into during the latter part of 2025, is now really starting to take shape. We’ll be focusing on painting all of our materials in AMF colours, a process that will continue right through 2026.”

“We’ll also be welcoming an electric vehicle into our fleet soon, marking the start of the electric AMF division and helping us reduce emissions across the business.”

“There’s a lot to be excited about, with plenty of work still ahead as we continue building the business properly for the future.”

As we wind down for the festive break, we just want to send a huge heartfelt thank you to our clients, partners, friends, and families. Your support throughout 2025 has helped AMF continue to grow, take on new challenges, and build an exciting future, and we truly couldn’t do it without you.

Our office is now closed for the holidays and will reopen on Monday 5th January, ready to kick off a big year ahead.

Projects Progressing Across the City 💪🏻

Our Newcraighall project for cullrosslimited is well underway. We’ve fully erected 7 of the 20 builds, with 2 more scaffolds planned by year-end, and we’re back on site.

At AMF Access Services, we enjoy being part of projects like this—but we also acknowledge where we can improve. Here’s what we’ve learned and how we’ve acted:

🟢 Project Management: Initially, we lacked a dedicated Project Manager. Kevin Reilly has stepped into this role, becoming the main point of contact for planning and site coordination.

🟢 Onsite Tidiness: Material storage and site cleanliness were below standard. We now return unused materials to site storage, run weekly audits, and deploy teams to tidy the site as needed.

🟢 Safety: Failings have occurred, but safety is always our priority. We respond immediately to risks and have introduced a “safety card” system for reporting issues, with daily review and monthly safety themes for team learning.

✅ At AMF, we admit mistakes, stop, think, and act. We’re far from perfect, but we’re learning and adapting constantly, implementing new processes, strategies, and procedures to better serve our clients.
We look forward to supporting Cullross for the remainder of this project while growing and improving as a business.

Team Update – Kevin Reilly
Contracts & Project Manager

We’re delighted to share some exciting news — Kevin Reilly has stepped into a new role within AMF Access Services as Contracts & Project Manager.

Kevin has been an integral part of AMF since day one, showing unwavering dedication, professionalism, and skill. Over the years, he’s progressed through multiple key positions — from Chargehand to Foreman, then Scaffold Manager — each time proving his ability to lead, adapt, and deliver to the highest standard.

With over 23 years of experience in the scaffolding industry, including work with some of Edinburgh’s largest companies, Kevin brings a wealth of knowledge, technical expertise, and quick thinking to his new position. His impact on the business has been immense, and we’re confident he’ll continue to play a pivotal role in AMF’s growth and success.

Outside of work, Kevin is a devoted husband and father who enjoys travelling abroad and discovering great food at top restaurants.

Meet the Team – John Morris
Scaffold Manager

We’re delighted to welcome John to the team as our new Scaffold Manager here at AMF Access Services.

With an incredible 23 years of experience in the scaffolding industry, John has worked on some of the most complex and demanding projects across the UK and beyond. His first major project was none other than the iconic Forth Rail Bridge, a challenging and intricate job where he first honed his tube and fitting skills, setting the foundation for a career built on precision and expertise.

Since then, John has worked offshore in the North Sea for eight years, building detailed suspended scaffolds from complex design drawings, before taking on major roles at Battersea Power Station in London, pharmaceutical plants in Ireland, and the Grangemouth oil refinery closer to home.

Away from work, John is a dedicated husband and father of three. He’s passionate about fitness, trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu five times a week, and competes at a high level across the country.

We’re thrilled to have John on board and look forward to seeing the experience, discipline, and drive he brings to the team.

Another successful task completed for our client within Edinburgh. The team delivered an excellent result while avoiding any disturbance to this fragile roof by using a back-anchored suspension method.

By securing the structure to the building’s wall with thunder bolts and band & plate, the scaffold’s weight was safely transferred away from the roof surface. This precise process involved drilling into the building and self-tapping the thunder bolts to secure the system, forming a solid foundation for the working lift.

Additional pick-up bracing was supplied to guarantee zero movement throughout the scaffold. It’s an ideal approach for suspending weight safely on delicate or restricted roof areas, another outstanding job by the ever-growing AMF team.

✅ Boards tied
✅ Ladder hatches
✅ Double-caught ladders
✅ Ledgers at each cup at ladder access
✅ Protective padding

🔑 A New Chapter Begins

We’ve got the keys to our new yard on the west of the city — a major step forward as AMF continues to grow and evolve.

This move reflects everything we’ve worked hard to build — a solid reputation, strong relationships, and a team that’s always pushing for better.

We’re not ones for big speeches — but this one means a lot.

The setup begins soon, and we look forward to sharing more as this new space takes shape.

It’s always nice just to be able to relax and take in the sun…

A few of our team however, including our Scaffold manager Kevin Reilly are working the full weekend ensuring that our clients requirements are met.

A fantastic effort today completing three smaller tasks which are equally as important as the large scale works that we do!

Next week we will see the majority of our team working 12 hour shifts to keep up with the demand.
