We were delighted to present the Laurence McIntosh Award for Architectural Interiors at this year’s Awards to for the exceptional Edinburgh Futures Institute.

Located within the former Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Futures Institute has given new purpose to one of the city’s most significant historic buildings, creating a contemporary space for learning, research and collaboration. Laurence McIntosh was proud to contribute to the project through the refurbishment of the building’s historic windows.

Congratulations to the entire Bennetts Associates team on this well-deserved recognition. The practice was also honoured with a 2026 RIAS Award and the TCM Capital Innovation Award on the evening.

Over the course of this project, our team was tasked with renewing 50% of the existing windows and carrying out a full refurbishment of the remaining 50%.

Working in close collaboration with and , we ensured that the highest conservation and quality standards were achieved while keeping the project on schedule.

Through careful planning, expert craftsmanship and strong partnership working, the result was a highly successful restoration that preserved the character of the building while enhancing its long-term performance.

We were also delighted to present with this year’s Laurence McIntosh Award for Architectural Interior in the RIAS Awards 2026

📣 Celebrating our 2026 Winners | Edinburgh Futures Institute by Bennetts Associates

The repair and remodelling of this Category A listed Victorian hospital has created a series of exceptional new university facilities, including a 450-seat auditorium, teaching and social spaces, and a new public square.

The judges recognised the project for its ability to demonstrate technical mastery while preserving the integrity of the historic building. The panel noted that the Institute “sets a benchmark for transformative academic architecture that is visually compelling, technically exemplary, and a socially significant heart of the Edinburgh University campus.”
